Matthews 50th Anniversary
DuBOIS — Fred and Gloria Matthews of DuBois celebrated their golden wedding anniversary recently.
They were married Jan. 13, 1955, in Winchester, Va.
They have three children: Russell “Lamare” Matthews of Stump Creek, Rod Matthews of Rathmel and Pam Walker of DuBois.
They have seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Their children and grandchildren hosted a surprise party in their honor April 10, 2005 at the Hampton Inn in DuBois.

(Obituary of Gloria Matthews: "Gloria Matthews, 81, of Sykes Street Extension, DuBois, died Friday, Oct. 23, 2015, at Penn Highlands DuBois. Born July 15, 1934, in Kittanning, she was the daughter of the late Russell A. and Milda E. (Walker) Schrecengost. On Jan. 13, 1955, she married Fred Matthews. He survives. Gloria was a homemaker and an avid Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers and Penguins fan. She enjoyed her yearly family vacation to Myrtle Beach, and enjoyed going on cruises with her family. Most of all, she enjoyed following her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their many sports events and activities. She is survived by three children: Russell "Lamar" Matthews and his wife, Karen, of Stump Creek, Rodney Matthews and his wife, Cathy, of Reynoldsville, and Pamela Walker and her husband, Scott, of DuBois; three brothers, Russell "Bud" Schrecengost of Streetsboro, Ohio, Clayton Schrecengost of Kittanning and William Schrecengost of Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren: Heather Pasternak and Rusty Matthews, Devon and Daron Walker, Nichelle Matthews and Melinda Manning, and Briana Pold; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Holli Matthews. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home Inc., DuBois. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, from the funeral home with Pastor Terry Felt officiating. Burial will follow in Lakelawn Memorial Park. In honor of her granddaughter Holli, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to any cancer fund and/or the charity of the donor's choice.")
