Schaffer 50th Anniversary
DuBOIS — Mr. and Mrs. Bernell Schaffer (Barb Showers) of DuBois will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday.
They were married July 16, 1955, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in DuBois by the Rev. Msgr. John Mignot.
The Schaffers have five children: Brenda Edwards, Ken Schaffer, Steve Schaffer, Andy Schaffer and Tim Schaffer, all of DuBois.
They also have 11 grandchildren.
Their children will host an open house for them from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the Best Western in DuBois.
Family and friends are invited to help celebrate the occasion.
Following the open house, the family will also celebrate together at the 5:15 p.m. Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
The family requests no gifts.

(Obituary of Barb Schaffer: "Barbara A. Schaffer, 80, Mahoning Street, DuBois, died Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Penn Highlands DuBois. Born July 22, 1934, in DuBois, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth "Gamey" and Elizabeth Haley Showers. On July 16, 1955, she married Bernell J. Schaffer. He survives. She retired from the City of DuBois as a bookkeeper after 21 years of service. Barb was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church where she was very active in the music ministry as a cantor. She also was chairman of the autumn festival at St. Catherine's. Barb was a past president of the DuBois Little League Auxiliary, both a Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts leader, and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She enjoyed sewing, crafting and, most importantly spending time with her family. She is survived by five children: Brenda Edwards and her husband, Timothy; Kenneth Schaffer and his wife, Lisa; Andrew Schaffer and his wife, Nancy; Steven Schaffer and his wife, Karen; and Timothy Schaffer and his wife, Angela, all of DuBois; two brothers, John Showers and his wife, Joyce, of Brockway and Theodore Showers and his wife, Jean, of Pittsburgh; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Jean Bailey; and brother, Kenneth Showers. Friends will be received from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2015, at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home Inc., DuBois. A scriptural wake service will be prayed at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2015, at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.
