Gulvas 50th Anniversary
DuBOIS - Mr. and Mrs. Michael A. Gulvas (Loretta Benigni) of DuBois celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday.
They were married July 30, 1955, at St. Tobias Catholic Church in Brockway.
The couple have five children: Denny Gulvas, Theresa Kister, Kathleen Hanslovan, Eddie Gulvas and Cindy Foster; and 15 grandchildren.
The family celebrated at a Mass at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in DuBois followed by a family reception at the DuBois Country Club.

(Obituary of Michael Gulvas: "Michael A. Gulvas, 83, of DuBois died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 29, 1930 in DuBois, he was the son of the late Andrew and Anna (Potash) Gulvas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. On July 30, 1955, he married Loretta J. (Benigni) Gulvas. She survives. He spent his entire career in the grocery business. He started as the assistant manager at Riverside on Main Street in DuBois. He then progressed to a district manager of the Riverside Division of the Penn Traffic Company for many years. He then purchased the Reynoldsville Riverside, now known as Mike’s Bi-Lo. He continued as the owner until the present. He was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, where he served as chairman for the Polish Festival for many years. He also was past president of the DuBois Jaycees and a past member of the DuBois Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who he adored and following all of their many activities. He is survived by five children Denny Gulvas and his wife, Karen, Theresa Kister and her husband, Kevin, Kathleen Hanslovan and her husband, Ron, Ed Gulvas and his wife, Sueann and Cindy Foster and her husband, Gary, all of DuBois; a sister, Margaret Sherback of Connecticut; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Gulvas and two sisters, Ankie Rutkowski and Helen Bockoras. Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Kresinski as celebrant. Full military honors will be accorded from the church by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery. (Obituary of Loretta Gulvas: "Loretta J. Gulvas, age 84, DuBois Street, DuBois, Pa., died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016 at her home. Born Dec. 20, 1931, in Brockway, Pa., she was the daughter of Louis and Agnes (Stonek) Benigni. On July 30, 1955, she married Michael A. Gulvas. He preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 2013. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. In her youth, she was an accomplished accordion player in our area, playing many times at the Belvedere in Elk County. Loretta so loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She adored being with each of them and following their many activities. She was an avid sports fan and especially loved following the Pittsburgh Pirates. Loretta is survived by her children: Denny Gulvas and his wife, Karen; Theresa Kister and her husband, Kevin; Kathleen Hanslovan and her husband, Ron; Ed Gulvas and his wife, Sueann and Cindy Foster and her husband, Gary, all of DuBois, Pa.; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home, DuBois. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, from St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Tomasone as celebrant.
