Nelson - Mink
Jessica Mink, the daughter of Ronald and Bonnie Mink of Great Bend, and Andrew Nelson, the son of
Delbert and Andrea Nelson of Otis, were united in marriage on Dec. 28, 2002 at the First Christian
Church in Great Bend.
The Rev. William Johnson officiated the double ring ceremony.
The Rev. Bruce Burfield, uncle of the groom, assisted in the ceremony.
The bride was given in marriage by her father.
She wore a bridal white, satin strapless gown with fitted bodice, and semi-full sweep skirt.
The gown was embellished with clusters of seed pearls, and embroidered flowers of gold and silver thread, continuing down the cathedral length train.
Her head was adorned with a silver tiara with pearl and rhinestone accents, and an elbow -length tulle veil with satin border.
She carried a hand bouquet of white roses and iris, with lavender freesia, purple alstroemeria, statice, misty blue and plumosa.
The bride wore a string of gold beads on her wrist handed down since 1885 from her mother’s side of the family, as well as an embroidered handkerchief from her father’s side of the family.
Matron of honor was Shannon Black of Manhattan.
She wore a shimmering satin, A-line gown with brush train in dark grape.
The bridesmaids were Jayne Shumate of Great Bend, Erin Janis of Hoisington, and Janice Nelson of
Longmont, Colo., who wore gowns similar to the Matron of Honor in lilac.
They carried cascading bouquets of white and purple silk flowers.
Best man was Dale Nelson of Longmont.
Groomsmen were Cliff White of Wichita, Phillip Black of Manhattan and Grant Mink of Great Bend.
Guests were seated by Eric Ochs of Wichita, Chadd Schrepel of Hoisington, Mathew League of Great Bend and Greg Bayer of Pawnee Rock.
Flower girl was McKenzy Black of Manhattan.
The ringbearers were Matthew and Jordan Black of Manhattan.
The taperlighters were Josh and Nick Nelson of Longmont.
Music was provided by pianist Amanda Pfenninger of Hays and J.B. Webster of Great Bend on trumpet.
Trenton Green of Kansas City and Tom Fischer of Great Bend were the vocalists.
The bride is a 1997 graduate of Great Bend High School and 2002 graduate of Kansas State University, with a degree in elementary education.
She is employed as a substitute teacher.
She is the granddaughter of Ronald and Doris Mink of Springfield, Mo., and Delphine Makepeace of Kansas City.
The groom is a 1996 graduate of Otis Bison High School and is currently employed at Bayer Stone in St. Marys.
He plans to return to Wichita State University this summer to complete his vocal music degree.
He is the grandson of Vera Burfield of Lakewood, Colo., and Dorothy Scheideman of Great Bend.
After their honeymoon in Florida, the couple is at home in Manhattan.
