Schenkel Anniversary
John J. "Jack" Jr. and Bonnie Schenkel will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary June 30, 2001 with an open house reception hosted by their children and grandchildren.
The event will be from 4-6 p.m. at the Golden Belt Country Club in Great Bend.
The Schenkels were united in marriage June 29, 1961, in Clayton, N.M.
Children hosting the reception are, Vera and Gary Bruner, Brenda Walton, Terri and Steve Schenkel, all of Great Bend, and Bob and Phyllis Ward of Hutchinson.
Their grandchildren are Jessica Schenkel, Sarah Walton, John Schenkel III, Terry Jones, Robbie Grizzell, Jacob Schenkel, Eric Grizzell, Jordon Schenkel, and Matthew Bruner.
Their great-grandson is Ian Phillip.
Jack Schenkel was employed for 45 years in the oil industry, working for Sun Cementing Company and retiring from Allied Cementing Company.
He is now semi-retired and works for the Senior Center in Great Bend, driving a cab.
Bonnie Schenkel is a homemaker.
She worked as a room attendant and morning cook at the Holiday Inn.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend the reception.

(Obituary for John Schenkel: "GREAT BEND -- John "Jack" Schenkel Jr., 75, died Nov. 5, 2003, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 24, 1927, to John J. Sr. and Katherine Hegart Schenkel in LaCrosse. He married Bonnie Harding June 30, 1961, in Clayton, N.M. She survives. He was a supervisor in the oilfield working for Sun Oilwell Cementing, B.J. Hughes and Allied Cementing. He drove "The Cab" for the Senior Center for the past 10 years. Other survivors include three sons, Randall J. Schenkel, Liberal, Gary Bruner, Great Bend, and Steven W. Schenkel, Great Bend; three daughters, Sheila Dunn, Golden, Mo., Brenda Walton, Great Bend, and Phyllis Ward, Hutchinson; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded by one daughter, Teresa Schenkel, 10 brothers and three sisters. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend with the Pastor Robert Castile presiding. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.")
