Mr. and Mrs. Wilfredo Cortes of San Juan, Puerto Rico, announce the engagement of their daughter, Jitsa Ivette Cortes, to David Ray Gardner, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. Ray Gardner of Fayetteville.
The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Mrs. Modesta Vazquez, the late Emilio Maldonado, the late Mrs. Carmen Ramirez and the late Julio Cortes, all of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
She is a 1994 graduate of the University of Puerto Rico where she earned a B.S. in marketing.
She is currently employed with ADVO, Inc.
The groom-elect is the grandson of Mrs. Rubye Barnes of Fayetteville, the late Ben Barnes of Hapeville, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Gardner, also of Hapeville.
He is a 1991 graduate of Woodward Academy and a 1996 graduate of Auburn University where he earned a B.S. in aviation management.
He is currently a pilot with Comair Airlines.
The wedding will be June 16, 2001, at St. Issac Jogues Catholic Church in Orlando, Fla.
Following a honeymoon in Maui, the couple will reside in Orlando.
