Mr. and Mrs. Ralph W. Howard of Wamego, Kan. announce the engagement of her daughter, Ellen Catherine Pappas, daughter of the late Larry George Pappas, to Leonardo Noel Ortiz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonardo N. Ortiz of Pembroke Pines, Fla.
The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everett S. Hilfiker of Fayetteville, and Theodore Pappas of Gering, Neb.
She was graduated from Auburn Senior High in Auburn, Neb. and Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla., with a B.A. in international affairs.
She presently attends Florida State University College of Law and is employed by the law office of James C. Banks.
The groom-elect is the grandson of Mrs. Teresa Vega and Mrs. Daniela Navedo of Hollywood, Fla.
He was graduated from Nova High School in Davie, Fla., and Florida International University in Miami, Fla. with a B.S. in criminal justice.
He also attends Florida State University College of Law.
The wedding is planned for May, 2001.
