Lovegreen - 50th
Mr. and Mrs. James D. Lovegreen of Palmyra celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 26, 2004, at a dinner with their children at The Patio in Quincy, Ill., and again the weekend of July 4 in Palmyra.
Marjorie Anne Million and James D. Lovegreen were united in marriage on June 26, 1954, at the bride's home in Palmyra.
The Rev. Henry Eisenberg, a friend and former pastor of Palmyra United Methodist Church, officiated.
The matron of honor and the best man were Mrs. James (Janice) Losson of Palmyra, and John M. Cary, formerly of Palmyra.
The wedding was attended by family and a few close friends.
A reception, following the ceremony, was at the George Saffarran's home in Palmyra.
Mrs. Lovegreen is the daughter of the late Barkley D. Million and Vera Million Davis.
Mr. Lovegreen is the son of the late Elmer D. and Margaret M. Lovegreen.
They are the parents of three sons, Stephen Michael and wife, Teresa, and James Robert and wife, Christie, both of Palmyra, and William Barkley and wife, Carol, of Kirksville.
They have five grandchildren, Adam and Nicole, both of Palmyra, and Jonathan, Courtney and Katie, all of Kirksville.
Mr. and Mrs. Lovegreen made their home in Kansas City for six weeks during which Mr. Lovegreen attended a Macy's sales training program before his induction into the Army.
The Lovegreens lived in the state of Maryland during the two years of Army obligation, then returned to Palmyra in 1956, when Mr. Lovegreen joined Lovegreen Motor Co., the family business, and Mrs. Lovegreen taught second grade in the Palmyra School District.
Both are still actively involved in the family automobile dealerships and enjoy the contact with people in Palmyra and Kirksville.
The past few years, they have enjoyed traveling and look forward to a trip to Alaska this fall, where they will visit with Mrs. Lovegreen's sister, Mrs. Peter F. Powell and families, and Mr. Lovegreen's nephew, Mark Lovegreen and family.
