MICHAELS CELEBRATE 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
On June 7, 2003, Hilda Pohlman Michaels and Don Michaels, Sr. will be celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary at St. John's Church Pavilion, West Chester.
An Open House for family and friends will be hosted by their children, Mary Lynn Reinhart, Don Michaels, Jr., Jenny Morrison and David Michaels.
They have seven grandchildren, Michael, Chris and Nicole Reinhart, Brian Barton, Julia Morrison, Daniel Michaels and Stephanie Michaels.
Hilda and Don were married on June 6, 1953 at St. Agnes Church, Bond Hill.
Most of the wedding party will be in attendance.

(nee Pohlman), brother-in-law of Wilma Willard, dear father of Mary Lynn Reinhart (Rick), Don Michaels, Jr. (Lisa), Jenny Morrison (Randy Caron) and David Michaels (Jenny), brother of the late Mary Desserich, grandfather of Michael, Chris, Nicole, Brian, Julia, Daniel, Stephanie and Bret and great grandfather of Audrey. Passed away peacefully February 12, 2011 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mr. Michaels was the first Fire Chief of Forest Park and a life long member of The Knights of Columbus. (Another obituary of Donald Michaels: "Donald Michaels - WEST CHESTER TWP. - Donald J. Michaels Sr. helped to start Forest Park's fire department, an accomplishment in a life full of service to others. At the time it was all volunteers and Mr. Michaels served as Forest Park's first fire chief from 1961-67. Forest Park Fire Chief Trish Brooks said to the fire department, Mr. Michaels "represents a great tradition of men" who saw something that needed to happen for the safety and prosperity of Forest Park. Brooks was a good friend of Mr. Michaels. "We met for lunch on a regular basis and he always talked about the fire department and talked how much fun it was to really start this department," she said. Mr. Michaels, 80, of West Chester Township, died Saturday at Hospice of Hamilton in Hamilton following a 10-year bout with pancreatic cancer. Mr. Michaels had four surgeries to remove cancerous tumors. "The surgeon refers to my father as his miracle man. ... He should've never lived that long," said daughter Mary Lynn Reinhart of Springfield Township said. Mr. Michaels served in the U.S. Naval Reserves and that's what caught the attention of a young woman named Hilda Pohlman. Both grew up in Bond Hill. "My mom said that she saw him when she was 16 years old. ... Bond Hill's a small community and (she) saw him in his Navy whites and it was love at first sight," Reinhart said. The couple was married for 57 years and had four children. Hilda Michaels survives. Mr. Michaels' job with International Harvester had him relocating from Forest Park to Dayton, Ohio to Charleston, W.Va., to Greenhills and to Lansing, Mich. He worked as a regional service manager for 26 years with the company. He lived in Lansing, Mich. until 2000 when he and Hilda moved to West Chester Township to be closer to family. Mr. Michaels served in the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal and service organization, for 55 years. He belonged to several councils of the Knights. He was grand knight five times and helped start the council at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in West Chester where he was a longtime member. Mr. Michaels was actively involved in the Precious Blood Assembly, an organization that is part of the Knights. Hobbies included gambling, camping, coin collecting and stamp collecting. Mr. Michaels and his wife had a strong faith that helped them through the cancer. "The power of prayer," Reinhart said. Also surviving is son Don Michaels Jr. of Fairfield, daughter Jenny Morrison of West Chester, son David Michaels of Fairfield, eight grandchildren, one great granddaughter, three nephews and one niece. "He was all about his family," Reinhart said. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mueller Parker Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason. Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 9080 Cincinnati-Dayton Road, West Chester. Visitation is also one hour before Mass at the church.
