The engagement of their daughter, Karen Lynne, to Neil J. Valanty, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Valanty of Leesport, Berks County, is announced by Mr. and Mrs. Paul G. Hertrick of Bethel Park.

Both Miss Hertrick and her fiance are respiratory therapy students at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

A September 1982 wedding is planned.
