Combs-Conine
Sunday Combs and Derrick Conine were united in marriage Saturday, Aug. 18.
The surprise ceremony, planned by the bride, groom, maid of honor and retired justice of peace Norman Weller, took place at the couple's home, at 909 High St., Athol, during a casual dress gathering of family and friends. The event took place while the band "Adiradical Blue" took a brief intermission. Weller officiated the ceremony.
Maid of honor was Jill VanLoan, who presented the bride with a bouquet of Calla Lillies before the ceremony began.
The bride was given in marriage by her father, Jerrold A. Combs of Warrensburg. At the conclusion of the double-ring ceremony, a champagne toast was given by Brant Conine, brother of the groom.
A reception buffet of barbecued chicken, steamed clams, baked beans and salads was catered by Gil "Tank" Wood. Many of the bride and groom's out-of-town guests pitched tents among their pine trees and near their pond to enjoy the bonfire and music until the wee hours of the following morning.
