Ms. Fels is a graduate of Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass.
She is the founder and executive director of On the Rise, a nonprofit organization that benefits homeless women in Cambridge.
Mr. Smyth is a graduate of Amherst College, Amherst, Mass.
He served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Marshall Islands, after graduation from Amherst.
He also holds a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, and is employed as an assistant district attorney in Suffolk County.
The couple plans a December 2001 wedding in Sheffield, Mass.
