Mr. and Mrs. Francis Marion Young, Jr., of Hampton, South Carolina proudly announce the engagement of their daughter Rebecca Peeples Young of Clemson, South Carolina to James Richard Matthews of Savannah, Georgia son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Smith Matthews of Union, South Carolina.
A wedding is planned for July twenty-fourth at First Baptist Church Hampton, South Carolina. The bride-elect is a granddaughter of Mrs. Rebecca Miley Peeples and the late Mr. William Peeples of Hampton and Mr. Francis Marion Young, Sr., and the late Mrs. Mary Foreman Young of Allendale, S. C. She is a 1998 graduate of Wade Hampton High School.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 2002 and a Masters of Education degree in School Counseling in 2003, both from Clemson University. She is employed by Pickens County School District as a school counselor at R. C. Edwards Middle School in Clemson.
Mr. Matthews is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Willis Hamer, Jr., of Little Rock, S. C., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Smith Gideon Matthews of Blackville, S. C. He is a 1997 graduate of Union High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Clemson University in 2001. He is employed by International Paper Company as a Management Development Associate for the Wood Products Division in Savannah.
