Redman-Cody vows exchanged
Melinda Irene Redman became the bride of Christopher Douglas Cody, June 28, 2003 at 6 p.m., at Greater Union Church.
The groom's uncle Pastor Roger Estes performed the double-ring, candlelight service.
A reception followed at Veterans Memorial Park. Nuptial music was provided by vocalist Miss Laura Causey of New Orleans, La.
The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Robert Redman, Jr. of West Springs, S.C. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Douglas Cody of Union.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride chose a Gloria Vanderbilt gown of white satin. The strapless, A-line gown featured hand-beaded trim beginning at the bodice and continuing along the inverted pleat of the chapel-length train.
She carried a bouquet of red and white rosebuds, centered by a handkerchief once fashioned into her christening bonnet by her godmother Mrs. Linda May of Knoxville, Tenn.
Her three-tiered veil was handmade by family friend Mrs. Melissa Bailes and featured satin pencil-trim and scattered pearls caught beneath a pearl and crystal tiara.
Miss Gini Redman sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Christi Boland of Orangeburg, S.C.; Miss Laura Causey of New Orleans, La.; Miss Kerri Olson of St. Paul Minn.; Miss Crystal Pettit of Union; Mrs. Jamie Wills of Atlanta, Ga., all friends of the couple.
Honor attendants wore strapless, mock two-piece, A-line gowns of champagne chiffon, featuring a bodice trimmed with crystals and pearls and accented with matching chiffon shawls. They each carried a dozen red rosebuds.
Honorary bridesmaids were Miss Elizabeth Oswalt of Charlotte, N.C., friend of the bride and Miss Kathy Seay of Boiling Springs, S.C., friend of the bride. Flower girl was Miss Savannah Pye friend of the couple of Cliffside, N.C. Her dress was a miniature of the bride's and she wore a wreath of red tea roses and baby's breath.
Ringbearer was Master Jonathan Burgess of Lockhart, cousin of the groom. The groom chose his father as best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Brandon Cody of Union, brother of the groom; Mr. Mitch Henderson of Union, cousin of the groom; Mr. Tim Pettit of Union; Mr. Brandon Pye of Forest City, N.C. and Mr. Jeremy Sanders of Union, all friends of the couple. Pages were Master Grant Shetley of Union, friend of the couple and Master Seth Whitehead, West Springs, S.C., cousin of the bride. Miss Shelley Whitehead of West Springs, cousin of the bride, attended the register.
The bride is a graduate of Union Day School with a BA in Early Childhood Education from Converse College. She is a first-grade teacher at Cowpens Elementary School and a granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Ray Whitehead and Mrs. Roy Robert Redman of Ft. Smith, Ark., and the late Mr. Redman, Senior. The groom is a graduate of Union Day School and is employed with ATA Roofing Company. He is a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Coleman of Buffalo, S.C. and Pastor and Mrs. John Cody of Union.
After a trip to the Gulf Coast, the couple will live in Spartanburg. The bride and several of her bridesmaids enjoyed a springtime cruise to the Bahamas. She was honored with showers given by the ladies of Bogansville United Methodist Church and the ladies of Greater Union Church, as well as teachers and co-workers at Cowpens Elementary School.
