In a candlelight ceremony at three o'clock in the afternoon, March 22, 2003, at Bethel United Methodist Church, Charleston, SC, Miss Elizabeth Anne Sumner became the bride of Jon Weni Gordon. The Rev. George Busch officiated at the double-ring ceremony. A reception followed at Alahambra Hall, Mount Pleasant, SC.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Melvin Sumner, Sr., of Buffalo, SC. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Clyde Gordon of Brazoria, TX. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a white strapless gown of silk organza. The bodice and skirt were accented with Schiffli lace, Autrian crystal beading and white pearls. The A-line skirt extended into a chapel-length train. Her two-tier edged veil of silk illusion was attached to a crystal and pearl headpiece. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of light pink hydrangea, medium and deep pink, opened roses and Belles of Ireland wrapped in white silk organza ribbon.
Miss Lesley Katherine Sumner of Mount Pleasant, SC, served her sister as maid of honor. Flower girls were Victoria Paige Lee and Rebecca Claire Lee, of Union, nieces of the bride.
The groom chose his friend Marty Alan Janak of Houston, Texas, as his best man. Ushers were Thomas Melvin Sumner, Jr., of Buffalo, brother of the bride and Jason Delane Suggs, friend of the groom, of Mount Pleasant. Music was provided by Mr. Greg Jones of Charleston, organist; Mrs. Jessica Fedelini, vocalist; and Mr. Michael Foxworth II, trumpeter. Attending the bridal register were Mrs. Lonnie Ray Lee, Jr. of Union and Mrs. Thomas Melvin Sumner, Jr. of Buffalo.
After a honeymoon trip to Thailand, the couple will reside in Mount Pleasant, SC. The bride is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, Spartanburg, and the College of William and Mary School of Law. She is an assistant solicitor for the Ninth Judicial Circuit in Charleston. She is a granddaughter of Mr. Loyd Maness and the late Mrs. Edna Miller Maness of Buffalo and the late Mr. Harris F. Sumner and Mrs. Inez Ford Sumner of Buffalo.
The groom served as a Second Class Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy and is pursuing a BA degree at the College of Charleston. He is a grandson of the late Mr. Hong Kotebua and Mrs. Yod Kotebua of Banpaeng, Thailand and Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Gordon of Brazoria TX.
The rehearsal dinner was given by Mr. and Mrs. Brian Gordon, parents of the groom, March 21 at Belle Hall Plantation Clubhouse.
