Miss Danna Lynn Dowdy became the bride of Mr. Gregory Burton Swain during a double-ring ceremony on October 12, 2002, at First Baptist Church, Myrtle Beach. Wayne Brown officiated the three o'clock service. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Terri Wix Stephens of Union and Mr. Danny Dowdy of Myrtle Beach.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Forgason of Myrtle Beach and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Swain of Raleigh, North Carolina. Mr. Sonny Clardy of Myrtle Beach was vocalist for the service singing "Together". Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown by Ginza, a private label collection. The floor length, sleeveless, matte satin gown had a scoop neckline with a tank bodice enhanced with beaded embroidery highlights that continued down the center of the cathedral length train.
In memory of her late maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wix, Jr., the bride wore her grandmother's wedding ring on her right hand as her something old. In her garter was tucked a handkerchief with her grandfather's initials in blue. She wore a fingertip crystal and pearl tiara. Her hand-tied bouquet consisted of fall colored Gerber daisies.
Miss Melissa Whelchel, cousin of the bride of Columbia, served as maid of honor. She wore a thistle green gown with white basque waist bodice and beaded scoop neckline. The full A-line skirt was floor length and was made of Dulcine from Jordan Fashions. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of fall colored Gerber daisies.
Bridesmaids included Mrs. Holly Thompson of Myrtle Beach, Mrs. Rachel Swain, sister-in-law of the groom of Myrtle Beach, and Miss Amanda Forgason, sister of the groom of Dallas, Texas; and Mrs. Lauren Alvey of Myrtle Beach. Miss Zandra Shafer of Ormond Beach, Florida and Miss Keely Bruns of Sea Grove, Florida, both nieces of the bride, served as junior bridesmaids. They wore dresses and carried bouquets identical in style to that of the maid of honor.
Miss Savannah Roberts, niece of the bride of Newberry, served as flower girl. Master Storm Eshelman, cousin of the bride of Spartanburg, served as ring bearer. The groom chose his brother, Mr. Jeffrey Swain of Myrtle Beach, to serve as best man.
Groomsman included Mr. Jeffery Roberts, brother of the bride of Newberry, Mr. Matthew Swain, brother of the groom of New York, New York; Mr. Charles Bud Forgason, brother of the groom of Fernandina Beach, Florida; Mr. Korie Alvey of Myrtle Beach. Mr. Adam Roberts, nephew of the bride of Newberry, served as junior groomsman.
Readings for the service were by the maid of honor and the best man. Barbara Thomas and Megan Thomas of Myrtle Beach attended the bridal register. Following the wedding ceremony, a reception was held at the Elk's Club in Myrtle Beach. Guests were greeted by Megan and Barbara Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie McGee.
Following a honeymoon trip on a Caribbean Cruise, the couple will reside in Myrtle Beach. The bride received a BA in psychology from the University of South Carolina Spartanburg and a degree in computer technology from the Horry Georgetown Technical College. She is currently employed with the University of South Carolina at the Baruch Institute of Marine Biology.
She is a granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe A. Wix and Mrs. Mabel Dowdy of Cheraw and the late Jesse Dowdy. The groom is a graduate of Myrtle Beach High School and is employed at Flenming's of Myrtle Beach. He is a grandson of the late Lt. Col. and Mrs. Burton Bridgewater and the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Forgason.
Parties and showers:
On July 28, Danna was honored with a drop-in shower at the home of Mrs. Susan Jordan of Myrtle Beach.
On August 17, Covenant Baptist Church was the setting for a miscellaneous shower given by Kathy Plexico, Teri Kirby, Mary McKeown and Rebecca Helms.
On September 21, guests were treated to a weekend at the beach house of Mrs. Virginia Carter of Atlanta, Georgia during which time a luncheon shower was given by Melissa Whelchel, Lauren Alvey, Holly Thompson, Rachel Swain and Lou Ann Whelchel.
