WYLIE ANNIVERSARY
Ione couple celebrate 40 years of marriage
Wednesday, August 25, 2004
Aug. 15, 2004 marked 40 years since Ione residents, Joe and Sharon Wylie were married in Ceres during the summer of 1964.
Joe and Sharon were childhood sweethearts since they met while attending Modesto High School in 1959.
The couple lived in Modesto where Joe was a prominent homebuilder and land developer throughout the 1970s and 1980s, building over 300 homes during the formative years of Modesto's growth.
The Wylie's were blessed with two boys, Joe III and Scott and decided to raise the children in a rural environment.
Subsequently, the family moved to Murphys in Calaveras County in 1979 and stayed there until moving to Ione in 2002.
Joe is presently employed as a resource supervisor by Environmental Alternatives, a nonprofit Foster Family Agency, with 22 offices in Northern California including San Andreas and Jackson.
Sharon, after raising her sons, held positions with area Bed & Breakfast Inns and performed data input for many years at O.A.R.S. River Rafting in Angels Camp.
They are members of the Sutter Creek Nazarene Church and spend as much time as possible traveling throughout the west in their 5th wheel RV. Travel, archery hunting, golf, fishing and time with grandchildren are favorite pastimes for the couple.
Son, Joe III, who is now a programming engineer for Amada Industries, married the former Brenda Ferguson of Arnold and also resides in Ione with their three children, Eden 14, Joey 10 and Andrew 2.
Dr. Scott Wylie, a practicing psychologist, resides in Santa Rosa with his wife, Dr. Juliet Bongianni and daughter, Ashleigh, 12.
He is employed by the State of California.
Recently, the brothers hosted a surprise 40th anniversary party for their parents, held at Kautz Winery in Murphys. Approximately 60 guests were present to honor the couple on their milestone.
The elder Wylie's were presented with a travel package arranged through Voyages Travel Agency in Sutter Creek
