On April 13, George and Gladys Bernal celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
They where married on the Rosenberg Ranch at the home of Lawrence and Ava Hansen in San Ardo.
After their marriage, they made their first home on the Rosenberg Ranch where George worked for Lawrence Hansen, his father-in-law.
In 1940, George and Gladys moved to Los Banos where George worked for Miller & Lux as a heavy equipment operator.
In 1948, the family moved back to San Ardo.
George worked for Mr. Hansen again and Gladys taught water safety for the Red Cross.
Gladys continued teaching for the Red Cross for the next 18 years.
In 1956, they bought the Evergreen Cafe in San Ardo on Highway 101.
They would be in the restaurant business for the next 13 years.
Having hunted in the Markleeville area for years and loving the country, they bought property in Amador County in 1967, retiring there in 1969.
Two years later, they opened G-G's Drive-in on Highway 88 at Inspiration Lodge.
Since the highway was closed during the winter, they decided to move the drive-in down to the intersection of Highway 88 and Red Corral Road (now known as Red Corral Drive-in).
They operated G-G's for the next 13 years.
In 1984, they retired once again.
They have traveled through Mexico and the United States in their RV and now go to Ajo, Ariz. from October through March.
On April 17, 2004, they where surprised at the Carson Valley Inn by 40 family members who joined in the celebration.
The closest attendee was from Gardenerville and the farthest came from Pennsylvania.
