Pioneer couple celebrates 50 years together
Wednesday, April 07, 2004
On March 27, Ken and Betty Wolchow celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
They were married in Reno, Nev., in 1954.
Ken was born and raised in Oakland and Betty was raised in San Francisco.
The couple met in Clearlake while on their graduation vacation and were married nine months later.
They bought their first home in Castro Valley where their four sons, Steve, Craig, Keith and Brent were born.
After 13 years, they finally outgrew their home and moved to Pleasanton where they lived for 25 years.
Ken helped start Little League in Pleasanton and continued to be involved for 12 years.
In 1989, he retired after 37 years as vice-president of a wholesale plumbing business.
Betty worked for State Farm Insurance and retired after 22 years.
A week later they moved to Amador County and have lived in Pioneer for 11 years.
Ken is involved in the SIRs organization and recently joined the Elks club.
Betty is a volunteer at the hospital thrift shop.
In 2001, their oldest son passed away.
The other three sons are now living in Washington State.
Recently, they were blessed with a new grandson - making five grandchildren (4 boys and 1 girl). In May, their first great-granddaughter was born.
In their spare time they like to travel in their motorhome.
They attend Grace Fellowship church in Jackson where they have enjoyed fellowship with the friends they have made there.
To celebrate their anniversary, they took a Sternwheeler cruise on the Colombia River with friends and then on to Washington to visit the new grandson and family.
