Veronica Lynn Malanga and Zachary Thomas Schafer, both of Durham, N.C., were married at 3 p.m. Aug. 16, 2003, at The Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Ind., by the Rev. Mark Poorman, CSC, and the Rev. Thomas Doyle, CSC.
The bride is the daughter Ronald and Rosemarie Malanga of Warren, Ohio.
The groom is the son of Thomas and Kathleen Schafer of Springfield.
Serving as maid of honor was Monica Malanga.
Bridesmaids were Andrea Bondy, Erin Burke, Heather Cassidy, Nicole Malanga, Donna Mowchan and Rachel Voorhies.
Flower girls were Tiffany Panfile and Madeline McCauley.
Best man was Nick Petroni. Groomsmen were Courtney Canadeo, Ajay Chapa, Christopher Malanga, Eric and Nicholas Schafer and Brian Simolon.
A reception was held at The Blue Heron at Blackthorn in South Bend, Ind.
The bride is a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in Warren, Ohio.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame and her Master of Science degree from the University of North Carolina.
She is employed as an occupational therapist for the Durham Public Schools.
The groom is a graduate of Springfield High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame.
He is a graduate student in cancer biology at Duke University.
The couple lives in Durham, N.C.
