Don and Mary Phillips Anniversary

Don and Mary Phillips, Orion, will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house hosted by their seven children and families. Please join us on Aug. 21, 2004 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Our Lady of Peace Church Hall in Orion. No gifts please, but the family would like everyone to know that your attendance, a call or card will be most appreciated.

The former Mary Finley and Donald met in Newfoundland while serving in the Air Force as air traffic controllers in 1953. They were married on Aug. 21, 1954, on the Harmon AFB near the city of Stevensville. During their marriage, they have lived in Marcy, N.Y; Tacoma, Wash.; St. Louis, Mo.; Lincoln, Neb.; and Rapid City S.D., before settling down in Orion in 1967 when Don accepted the tower chief position at the Quad City Airport.

Mary and Don are the proud parents of Alan, Mary Lynn, Brian, Janet, Robert, Karen and Donna, and to date enjoy 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Through the years they have been actively involved in the Orion PTA and Booster Clubs, and serving on several committees at church, also owning race horses, traveling to visit family and friends, and are members of the Valley View Country Club, and most recently owners of the M&D Cabinet Shop.

Don retired from the FAA in August of 1990, after 38 years of service. Mary excelled as a stay-at-home mother, playing the role of lead taxi driver, nursemaid, housekeeper, gardener, chief cook and loving grandmother.
