Wallace and Betty Chance, Milan, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 15, 2004 at an open house given by their children.
Relatives and friends are invited to stop by for refreshments, from noon until 3 p.m. at the VFW, 3715 9th St., Rock Island.
It is requested that gifts be omitted.
The former Betty Sharp and Mr. Chance, both of Rock Island, were married Aug. 14, 1954, in the Quad Cities.
Their children and spouses are Sandy and Don McLean, Reynolds; Tammy and Bob McShane, Oologah, Okla.; Kevin Chance, Indianapolis, Ind.; and Brian Chance, Milan.
There are five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Chance retired in February of 1985 after 35 years at John Deere Plow & Planter Works, where he was a pipefitter.
The couple built and opened the Scamper In, Milan, in 1958.
For more than 30 years Betty managed the business, while Wallace worked there on weekends.
It is still a part of their lives today, as they help out when needed.
