HOWARDS CELEBRATE 60TH ANNIVERSARY
Friends and relatives honored Roy and Mary Howard of 82 East Ave., Westerly, celebrating their 60th anniversary.
Local life-long residents who first met in junior high school, Roy Howard and Mary Turo were married on June 18, 1941, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception with Father Frechette officiating.
Shortly after the wedding, Roy Howard joined the 34th Division of the Army Infantry serving as a first lieutenant during World War II.
The best man at their wedding was Roy's brother, Harold, who was killed in World War II.
The maid of honor was Katherine Turano, who now resides in Sun City, Arizona.
Upon his return from World War II, Mr. Howard was employed as an accountant for the George C. Moore Co., where he remained for 40 years.
Mrs. Howard worked for many years at the Kellem's Division of the Harvey Hubbell Co. where she became known at the "Voice of Kellems."
They have two sons, Roy Breen and Raymond of Westerly, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Until recently, they had resided for more than 30 years on Breen Road, Watch Hill.
In addition to friends and relatives and some of the witnesses to the wedding, Mr. and Mrs. Howard have received a citation from the Rhode Island House of Representatives "in recognition of this memorable occasion."
