Miss Courtney Brooks Johnson and Mr. John Neal Anderson, Jr. were united in marriage on Saturday, August 21, 2004 at 7 o'clock in the evening at Chapelwood United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. The Reverend James F. Jackson officiated at the double ring ceremony. Music was provided by Mr. Tom Jaber, organist, Dr. Daniel Shipman, trumpeter, and The Fine Arts String Quartet. Mrs. Eloise Jarrett Brawley, great aunt of the bride, was soloist. A scripture reading was done by Miss Molly Kathleen Miller. A reception followed at the Houston Country Club with music provided by Grady Gaines and the Texas Upsetters. On the eve of the wedding, the rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's parents at Minute Maid Park. On Friday a bridesmaid's luncheon was hosted by Mrs. T.R. Wall, Mrs. LB Johnson, the bride's grandmothers, Mrs. Margaret Gunn, Mrs. Bruce R. Wall, aunts of the bride, and Mrs. Eloise J. Brawley, great aunt of the bride at the Junior League of Houston.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Mark Johnson of Dallas, Texas. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.R. Wall of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Mr. and Mrs. LB Johnson of Gulfport, Mississippi The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Neal Anderson, Sr. of Spring, Texas. The groom is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Nolen of Spring, Texas. He is also the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Donald M. Anderson and the late Harold Gene Gardner.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride chose an elegant gown by Amsale of New York. The strapless white satin gown was designed with a curved neckline with tuxedo pleating on the dropped waist. The back bodice featured a corset laced with satin ribbon. The full box-pleated skirt flowed into a chapel train. To compliment her gown the bride chose a headpiece of Swarovski crystals from which a cathedral length veil cascaded. She carried a nosegay of white calla lilies wrapped with white satin. She also carried a handkerchief made from her mother's wedding gown.
Miss Kristen Leigh Johnson, sister of the bride, of Houston, Texas served as Maid of Honor. Mrs. Melanie Jones White of Houston, Texas, served as Matron of Honor. The bridesmaids included Miss Lauren Michelle Barrash, Miss Stacey Erin Burke, Miss Julie Elizabeth Dodson, Miss Natalie Anne Hoover, Mrs. Sara Riley Mallon, and Miss Katherine Rebecca Price, all of Houston, Texas. The bridesmaids wore black strapless gowns by Lazaro and carried multicolored calla lilies and roses.
Miss Kathryn Rae Wall, cousin of the bride, of Dallas, Texas, served as flower girl.
The house party included Mrs. Cara Fecel Beckcom, of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Heather Wilborn Boyd, of Dallas, Texas, Miss Jennifer Rochelle Frost of Redondo Beach, California, and Miss Molly Kathleen Miller, of Houston, Texas.
Mr. Christopher Chance Monroe of Coppell, Texas and Mr. Derek William Darnell of Houston, Texas, served as Best Men. Groomsmen included Mr. Andrew Stephen Johnson, brother of the bride, of Houston, Texas, Mr. John Charles Mallon of Houston, Texas, Mr. William Warner Monroe of Denton, Texas, Mr. Jonathan Graham Nelson of Las Vegas, Nevada, Mr. Ronald Blake Redd II of Houston, Texas, and Mr. Michael Trent Toon of Dallas, Texas. Serving as ushers were Mr. Kyle Brian Kendall, Mr. Mark Douglas Rogers, Mr. Larry Richard Sloan, Jr., Mr. Alex Jarrett Wall, cousin of the bride, all of Dallas, Texas, Kenneth Clark White III of Houston, Texas also served as an usher.
The bride is a graduate of Memorial High School in Houston, Texas. She received a Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development from the University of Texas and was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She is also a member of the Junior League of Houston. Courtney is employed as a special education teacher in the Alief Independent School District. The Groom is a graduate of Spring High School in Spring, Texas. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Baylor University. He played baseball for Baylor and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. John graduated with a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Texas.
Following a honeymoon in Maui, Hawaii, Courtney and John will reside in Houston, Texas.
