Miss Catherine Virginia Purvis and Mr. Jon Robert Newton were united in marriage on Saturday, July 24, 2004 at seven o'clock in the evening at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. The double ring ceremony was officiated by the Reverend Suzanne Reedstrom. Mr. Keith Ross, organist and Mrs. Kim Nash and Mr. Marc Shellum, soloists performed music for the ceremony. Scripture readings were given by Mr. Wallace Garner Jeffery of Mobile, Alabama and Mr. William Tillman Jeffery of Florence, Alabama, cousins of the bride. Following the ceremony, the bride's parents hosted a reception at Lakeside Country Club with music provided by Commercial Art.
On the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was hosted at Maggiano's by Mr. and Mrs. Alvin K. Newton, father of the groom. The day before the wedding a bridal luncheon at Brennan's was hosted by Mrs. Judy Agee, Mrs. Christine Bergsieker, Mrs. Dana Blystone, of Houston, Mrs. Robin Tiemann and Miss Ashley Tiemann of West Columbia, Texas, Mrs. Mary Cromartie of Hattisburg, Mississippi and Mrs. Linda Gillespie of Beaumont, Texas.
The Bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jackson Purvis of Houston. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ewing Jeffery, Jr. of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and the late Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Jackson Purvis of Opp, Alabama.
The Groom is the son of Mrs. Karen Blystone Newton and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin K. Newton of Beaumont. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Vernon Newton of San Augustine, Texas and the late Mrs. Norma Rader Blystone and Mr. George Clay Blystone of Houston.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a magnificent gown by Reem Acra of New York. The strapless gown of ivory satin featured a dropped waist and bodice decorated with pearls and gold embroidery. The elegant full skirt swept into a chapellength train. The ensemble was complemented by a crystal and pearl headpiece with a chapel-length European cut veil. The bride carried a bouquet of ivory peonies, roses and hydrangeas.
Mrs. Tanaz Sara Jabbari of Herndon, Virginia served as Matron of Honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Jenny Newton Lamb, sister of the groom of Beaumont, Ms. Carrie Helen Cromartie, cousin of the bride of Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs. Katherine Green Howard, Miss Jill Elizabeth Lloyd, Miss Rachel Anne Merrill and Miss Mary Melissa Whitman of Fort Worth, Texas, Miss Victoria Lynn Zahn of Dallas, Texas, Miss Jenny Claire Catching of New York, New York and Miss Jaclyn Rose Raines of Houston. Flower girls were Miss Pacey Lee Purvis, niece of the bride and Miss Paige Elise Blystone, cousin of the groom, of Houston. The House Party included Miss Ashley Suzanne Payne and Miss Sarah Elizabeth Bowen of Dallas and Miss Ashley Claire Tiemann, cousin of the groom of West Columbia, Texas.
Mr. Ryan Michael Barbles of Houston served as Best Man. Groomsmen were Mr. William Anthony Koby and Mr. Robert Jeffery Purvis, brother of the bride of Houston, Mr. David Cade Bernsen, Mr. Michael Ralph Jenkins, Mr. Joseph Lynn Ramey, Mr. Christopher Neil Smith, Mr. Grayson Edward Wallace, of Beaumont and Mr. Arthur Thomas Carter, Jr. stepbrother of the groom, and Mr. Zachary Thomas Atkinson of San Antonio, Texas. Ushers were Mr. David Bryan Ledyard, Mr. Kyle Judson Koehler and Mr. John Curtis Wilson of Beaumont. Mr. Davis Clay Blystone of Houston, cousin of the groom served as Ring Bearer.
The Bride is a graduate of Stratford High School in Houston. She received her BBA degree in Finance from Texas Tech University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She is currently employed as an accountant with Duke Energy in Houston.
The Groom is a graduate of Monsignor Kelly High School in Beaumont. He received his BBA degree in Marketing from Texas Tech University and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He is the product design specialist for Newton Cabinet Works in Beaumont.
Following a honeymoon in The Bahamas, the couple will reside in Beaumont.
