Miss Kelly Lee Patin and Dr. Jay Carson Rutz were united in marriage at a Nuptial Mass on Saturday, June 12, 2004 at half past six o'clock in the evening at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in New Orleans, Louisiana. The double ring ceremony was officiated by Father Brian Carroll of Jackson, Mississippi, a longtime friend and pastor to the Rutz family. The Harry Harding String Quartet provided ceremony music. A reception followed at the Audubon Tea Room where guests enjoyed light jazz during the cocktail hour and later dance music provided by Walter Wolfman Washington and the Roadmasters. On the eve of the wedding the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Commander's Palace. Prior to the wedding a bridesmaid's luncheon was held at Bella Luna and hosted by the bride's mother and grandmothers. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Sandra Houssiere Patin and Mr. Michael Wayne Patin both of Houston, Texas. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Virginia Herald Houssiere of Jennings, Louisiana, and the late Mr. Ernest Arthur Houssiere, Sr. and Mrs. Florette Ledoux Patin of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana and the late Mr. Ovey John Patin. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Glendon Ray Rutz of Clarksdale, Mississippi. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lee Henneke of Owensville, Missouri and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Simpson Rutz of Cuba, Missouri.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a strapless ivory silk satin gown designed by Christos. The gown featured a fitted bodice adorned with Alencon lace accented with seed pearls. The same lace provided a deep border along the hem and cathedral train. To compliment her gown the bride wore the cathedral length veil that the groom's mother had worn on her wedding day. She carried a loose bouquet of roses, Casablanca lilies, calla lilies, and lily of the valley accented with magnolia leaves and wrapped with satin ribbon. Tucked inside the bouquet, the bride carried her paternal grandmother's First Communion rosary and a handkerchief belonging to her maternal great-grandmother.
The bridesmaids wore floor length gowns in a sage green duponi accented with gold thread designed by Jessica McClintock. Emily Swift Webre of New Orleans, Louisiana served as Matron of Honor. Maid of Honor was Kathryn Lillian Furlong of Shreveport, Louisiana. Bridesmaids were Claudine Moore Hendee, Courtney Roseman Byrnes both of Houston, Texas, Jessica Boone Foley, Jamie Alison Myers both of New Orleans, Louisiana. Sara Dowden Greer of Shreveport, Louisiana. Hollyn Kidd Schuemann of Washington, D.C., Emily Ingram Payne of Jackson, Mississippi, and Genevieve Herald Houssiere of Los Angeles, California. Flower girl and Ring Bearer were Madelaine Emily Houssiere and Britain Brome Houssiere, of Los Angeles, California. The Flower Girl's basket and the Ringbearer's pillow were both made from remnants of the bride's grandmother's wedding dress, and accented with handkerchief 's belonging to the bride's greatgrandmothers. Members of the House Party were Leslie Rene Manuel of New Orleans, Louisiana, Sara Elise Patin and Farrah Morey Goodell of Dallas, Texas and Alison Almon Maagan of Jackson, Mississippi.
Glendon Ray Rutz served as his son's Best Man. Groomsmen were Byron Trotter Bailey, Brian Thomas Robinson both of Monroe, Louisiana, Van Christopher Hollis of Starksville, Mississippi, Michael Garry Harris of Oxford, Mississippi, Jason Christopher Papania, Jason Allan Leach and Mr. Adam Warren Hodges all of Jackson, Mississippi, Ryan W. Moore of Nashville, Tennessee, and Sacha Houssiere Patin of Austin, Texas. Ushers were Stephen David Foley, Matthew David Gamble both of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Charles Deck Odom of Minden, Louisiana. Patrick Paul Patin of Las Vegas, Nevada read Scripture and Daniel John Patin of Lafayette, Louisiana presented the Gifts.
The Bride is a Graduate of Memorial High School. She obtained her B.S. Degree in Fine Arts from LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and participated in LSU studies abroad in London and Italy. She is currently employed by the Yellow Book as an account executive and marketing specialist. The groom also graduated from LSU and was in the Honors College where he obtained a degree in zoology and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He recently earned his DDS degree from the University of Mississippi Dental School. He will continue his studies in Endodonics after completing a one year residency at St. John Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Following a honeymoon to Kauai and Maui, the couple will reside in St. Louis.
