Miss Lisa Marie Whalen and Mr. Anthony Louis Marré were united in marriage on Saturday, June 12, 2004 at seven o'clock in the evening at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Houston. The candlelight double-ring nuptial mass was officiated by The Reverend Drew Wood. The ceremony music was performed by Mrs. Mary Thompson as soloist, Mr. Don Johnson as trumpeter, and The Avalon String Quartet. The scriptures were read by Miss Lisa Renee Florez and Miss Klair Elizabeth Kopnicky, both of Houston. Following the ceremony, the bride's parents hosted a reception of dinner and dancing at The Crystal Ballroom at The Rice with music provided by Grady Gaines. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Grappino di Nino. A bridesmaids' luncheon was hosted by the bride's mother at The Brownstone Restaurant on the day of the wedding.
The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. George Edward Whalen of Houston. She is the granddaughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. George Edward Whalen of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the late Mrs. Fay Goldberg of Long Island, New York, and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Goldberg of Seminole, Florida.
The groom is the son of Ms. Deborah Kay Marré of Houston and Mr. Richard Louis Marré of San Luis Obispo, California. He is the grandson of Mrs. Imogene Oleta Marré of San Luis Obispo, California, and the late Mr. Robert Bachino Marré of San Luis Obispo, California, and Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Grant Hatch of Cibolo.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore an elegant strapless ball gown fashioned of white silk satin by Reem Acra. The gown featured a fitted bodice and sculpted back. White and silver beading and embroidery adorned the bodice and highlighted the chapel length train. To complement her gown, the bride chose a two tiered fingertip length veil of diamond white illusion accented with Swarovski crystals. The bride carried a Beidermier style bouquet with different shades of Equadorian and Californian roses and peonies in traditional shades of pink.
Miss Brooke Jamison Harris of Houston served as Maid of Honor. Bridesmaids included Miss Amanda Elizabeth Abrams of Dallas, Miss Meredith Patricia Bozell of Arlington, Virginia, Miss Susan Laine Hale of Houston, Miss Renee Nicole Hall of New York, New York, Miss Amanda Marie Halverson, Miss Ashley Dunbar Harris, Miss Melissa Catherine McConn, all of Houston, Miss Michele Louise Mikeska of Greensboro, North Carolina, Miss Stephanie Paige Mullins of Dallas, Miss Amy Elizabeth Sharkey of Houston, Miss Nan Wilkins of Nashville, Tennessee, and Miss Lindsay Margaret Wilson of Houston. The bridesmaids wore formal floor length strapless a-line gowns in champagne satin designed by Vera Wang. The empire waist of the dresses featured delicate beading and the skirts opened out into a brush train. The bridesmaids carried bouquets of Sophia and Versillia roses and peonies in shades of pink. Serving as flower girl was Miss Olivia Grace Mandola of Houston. The House Party included Miss Holly Marie Cothran of Tyler, Miss Caroline Allyson Griffin of Dallas, Miss Anastasia Grace Shebay of Washington, D.C., and Miss Christi Lynn Villarreal of Houston.
Mr. James Joseph Tramuto of Houston, served as Best Man. Groomsmen included Mr. Michael Allen Britton, Mr. Jason Evans, both of Dallas, Mr. Derek Ky Hall, Mr. Joseph Eric Jackson, Mr. Gregory Khoumrian Kay, Mr. Michael Rodney Batiste Mandola, Mr. Thomas Christopher Marré, Mr. Brian David McConn, Mr. Kevin Daniel McConn, all of Houston, Mr. Nicholas Ryan Moore of San Antonio, Mr. Bryson Craig Smith of Dallas, and Mr. Robin Kelsey Weinburgh of Houston. Serving as ring bearer was Mr. Benjamin Alexander Garcia of Houston. The bride graduated from Saint Agnes Academy in Houston and from Texas A&M University where she earned a B.S. degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She is employed by Alief Independent School District as a third grade teacher at Kennedy Elementary.
The groom graduated from Saint Thomas High School in Houston and from Texas A&M University where he earned a B.B.A. degree in Marketing. He was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He will be beginning his second year at The University of Houston Law Center.
Following a honeymoon to Nevis in the West Indies, the couple will reside in Houston.
