Miss Laura Elizabeth McAndrew and Mr. Scott Allen Van Slyke were united in marriage on May 22, 2004 at half after seven o'clock in the evening at Saint Cecilia Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. The double ring ceremony was officiated by Deacon Donald Bradley. Selections and intentions were read by Mrs. Robin Ruman Conner of Houston; Miss Katie Elizabeth Van Slyke of Dallas, cousin of the groom; Mrs. Leonora Weil Breitenwischer of Houston and Mrs. Ada Weil Goodman of Corpus Christi, aunts of the bride. The cross bearer was Mrs. Jennifer White Biddle of Houston. Music for the ceremony was provided by Mr. Stephen Sloper, cantor, Mr. Steve Warkentin, trumpeter, and Mrs. Jenny Kwon, organist. A reception followed at Houston Country Club with music provided by Eclipse. On the eve of the wedding the groom's family hosted a rehearsal dinner at the Cadillac Bar. A bridal luncheon was held at Ouisie's Table on the day of the wedding and was hosted by the bride's aunts; Mrs. Catherine McAndrew, the bride's grandmother; and Mrs. Erwin Parrot Brown of New York City.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Bonnell McAndrew III of Houston, Texas. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Moise Harvey Weil of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Mrs. Benjamin Bonnell McAndrew, Jr. and the late Mr. McAndrew of Dallas, Texas.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Christopher Van Slyke and Ms. Lora Lynn Davis and Mr. Ronald Michael Ober, Sr. of Houston. He is the grandson of Mrs. Anson Van Slyke and the late Mr. Van Slyke and Mrs. Carl Howlan Case and the late Mr. Case and the late Mr. John Miller Davis, all of Dallas, Texas.
Escorted by her father and presented by her parents, the bride wore a gown fashioned of ivory silk satin designed by Reem Acra. The gown featured a fitted strapless bodice with a silk organza overlay intricately embroidered in ivory with a delicate hint of pastel pink and sage accenting the floral motif. The slim a-line style skirt also featured a layer of ivory silk organza cascading to the floor and along the sweep train.
Mrs. Jennifer Staff Johnson of Houston served as Matron of Honor. Bridesmaids included Miss Christie Shawn Harriss, Mrs. Meredith Ginzel Klatt, Mrs. Jennifer Donovan O'Donnell, Mrs. Teresa Sory Queal and Dr. Erin Manning Verducci, all of Houston, Texas; Mrs. Jessica Matthews Charbeneau of Ypsilanti, Michigan; and Mrs. Kimberley Tonick Henderson of Dallas, Texas. Attendants, all cousins of the bride, were Miss Megan Elizabeth Breitenwischer and Miss Rachel Jean Breitenwischer of Houston, and Miss Alexandra Bess Goodman and Miss Frances Ann Weil of Corpus Christi, Texas. Members of the houseparty included Mrs. Robin Perlo Berry, Dr. Cathleen McIntosh Havemann, Mrs. Elaine Whitley Reilly, all of Houston; Mrs. Kristin Cooper Davis of Glendale, Arizona; Miss Eleanor Elizabeth Gambel of Austin, Texas; Mrs. Susan Wells McCutchan of Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Julie Fowler Richards of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Mrs. Gail Kauffman Tolbert of Atlanta, Georgia.
Mr. Christopher Paul Van Slyke of San Diego, California, served his brother as best man. Groomsmen included Mr. Paul Christopher Van Slyke, father of the groom; Mr. Robert Bonnel McAndrew, brother of the bride, of Buenos Aires, Argentina; Mr. Kevin Lloyd Comiskey of Houston, Texas; Mr. Christopher Conley Juban of Dallas, Texas; Mr. Todd N. Throckmorton of Austin, Texas; and Mr. Trent N. Throckmorton of Westlake Village, California. Ushers were Mr. Jeffrey Curtis Barbles and Mr. Michael Todd Zatorski of Houston and Mr. Eric Christopher Wilson of Durham, North Carolina. The ring bearer was Master David Block Van Slyke, brother of the groom.
Laura is a graduate of Memorial High School in Houston, Texas. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Plan II and English and her Masters in Social Work at the University of Texas in Austin where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She works as a child therapist at Helping Hand Home, a residential treatment center for abused children in Austin, Texas.
Scott also graduated from Memorial High School and the University of Texas in Austin. He received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He works for NetBotz in Austin.
Following a honeymoon to Italy, Laura and Scott will reside in Austin, Texas.
