Elise Georgia Leonard and Demetri Peter Dale were united in marriage on Saturday, April 24, 2004 at half after six o'clock in the evening at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Houston, Texas. The Very Reverend Archimandrite J. Gabriel Karambis performed the double ring ceremony. Music for the ceremony was provided by trumpeter Dan Shipman and the Fidelis String Quartet. A reception followed at the S.P. Martel Ballroom, where music was provided by the Infinite Grooves of Houston, Texas along with Greek music provided by `To Kefi' of Dallas, Texas. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at the Petroleum Club of Houston.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Leonard of Houston, Texas. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Georgia Marcopoulos and the late Mr. Stathis Marcopoulos of Athens, Greece, and Mrs. Stella Leonard and the late Mr. Nick Leonard of Lynn, Massachusetts. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John James Dale of Houston, Texas. He is the grandson of Mrs. Cleo Laras and the late Mr. Peter Laras of Middletown, Ohio, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Demetrios Dale of Thessaloniki, Greece.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a strapless, silk satin gown by Priscilla of Boston. The gown had a Victorian styled, draped skirt with a chapel length train. The back of the dress was accented at the waist with a beautiful brooch.
Miss Stephanie Elaine Vlahakos of Houston, Texas served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids included Mrs. Dolley Levan Freason, Mrs. Maria Agrapidis Germanides, Mrs. Tonya Grega Leonard, sister-in-law of the bride, Mrs. Katina Dale Mathews, sister of the groom, Miss Arianna Gazis, cousin of the bride, all of Houston, Texas, and Miss Azzie Azarbayejani of Bethesda, Maryland, and Miss Bonnie Castronovo of Palisades Park, New Jersey.
Junior attendants were cousins of the bride, Miss Emily Demeris and Miss Frankie Demeris, both of Houston, Texas. The flower girl was Miss Katherine Rhea Valen, of Middletown, Ohio, goddaughter of the groom.
Miss Tula Laras of Houston, Texas, godmother of the groom, served the couple as Koumbara. Mr. Jon Andronis Kantalis, of Houston, Texas, served as Koumbaros, and Mr. Andrew Ryan Novotny, also of Houston, Texas, served as best man. Groomsmen included Mr. Mark Kendall Adam, Mr. Mark Edward Donnelly, Mr. Nick Leonard, brother of the bride, Dr. Vasilios Mathews, brother-in-law of the groom, Mr. James Walter Whitehead III, all of Houston, Texas, and Mr. Peter Thomas Zaferes of Cincinnati, Ohio, cousin of the groom. Cousins of the bride, Master Niko Demeris and Master Fote Demeris, both of Houston, Texas, served as crown bearer and ring bearer.
Ushers included Mr. Steven Kenneth Alexander, Mr. Alfred John Harper III, Mr. Patrick Michael Lonergan, Mr. John Alexander Pekmezaris, Mr. Robert Benjamin Vermillion, all of Houston, Texas, and Mr. Jeremy Lynn Ward of Wichita Falls, Texas.
The bride is a graduate of Sharpstown Senior High School and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Houston. She will receive her Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law this May.
The groom is a graduate of the Kinkaid School. He graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in mechanical engineering from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He is president of K & D Interests, LLC and an associate of Berkel Sales and Service, Inc.
The couple will honeymoon in Tuscany and the Italian Riviera, and will reside in Houston, Texas.
