Harlan - 50th
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin (Gene) Harlan of Palmyra will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary by reaffirming their wedding vows at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2004, at the First Assembly of God Church in Palmyra.
Following the vows, there will be a luncheon until 6 p.m. hosted by their children in the church's fellowship hall.
Phyllis Thomas and Marvin Harlan were united in marriage on July 10, 1954, at the First Pentecostal Church in Hannibal.
The Rev. Calvin S. Albert officiated.
Mrs. Harlan is the daughter of Eula Thomas of Taylor and the late Earl Thomas.
Mr. Harlan is the son of the late Frank and Emma Harlan.
Together they raised three children, Cynthia McDowell of Palmyra, Marvin (Butch) Harlan of West Quincy and Judy Webster of Hannibal.
They have six grandchildren, Tim and Amy Webster, both of Hannibal, Beth and Daniel McDowell, both of Palmyra, Angie Harlan of West Quincy and Derrick Harlan of Keokuk, Iowa; two stepgrandchildren, David McDowell Jr. of Salem, Ore., and Dale Burrows of Dalton, Texas; and three step great-grandchildren, Dominick, Felisha and Brittney Burrows, all of Dalton, Texas.
Mr. Harlan ran the Fabius River Drainage District pumphouse for 42 years, three months and 15 days, and was awarded the Corps of Engineers Levee Maintenance Award.
He also drove a school bus for almost 29 years in the Palmyra School District.
He is a member of the Assembly of God Church and Men's Group of Palmyra and the Quincy Woodworking Club.
He holds an Amateur Radio License.
Since retiring he enjoys fishing, camping, hobby woodworking and his special Christmas activities.
Mrs. Harlan worked a number of years for Motorola in Quincy, Ill.
She was a security guard at Gardner Denver in La Grange and and also worked for Hardees in Palmyra.
She is a member of the Assembly of God Church and Women's Missions Group, and is a Sunday school teacher.
Since retiring, she enjoys her flower gardens, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is also an amateur radio operator.
All friends and family are invited to attend their renewal of vows and the luncheon.
