Miss Kristen Jane Gatewood and Mr. Nathan Michael Stedham were united in marriage on Saturday, May 29, 2004 at six o'clock in the evening at Riverbend Church Smith Chapel in Austin, Texas. The double ring ceremony was officiated by Dr. Michael J. Stedham, father of the groom. Music for the ceremony was provided by musicians and vocalists Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Smith of Houston, Texas; pianist Mrs. Sarah Mulkey of Abilene, Texas; trumpeter Mr. Robert Cannon; and Barton Strings Quartet. Scripture readings were given by Mrs. Jessica Renger Trozzo, friend of the bride and groom.
A dinner reception hosted by the bride's parents followed in the Royal Ballroom at Barton Creek Resort, where guests enjoyed music provided by The Lucky Strikes during the cocktail hour, and later the musical entertainment of The Pictures Band. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at The Salt Lick Restaurant in Driftwood, Texas. On the day before the wedding, a bridal luncheon was held at Barton Creek by Mrs. Jody Bohnsack Clark and Mrs. Judy Bohnsack, friends of the bride and her family.
The Bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Michael Gatewood of Katy, Texas. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Chapman, Jr. of Deer Park, Texas; and Mr. and Mrs. Earl W. Gatewood of Wichita, Kansas.
The Groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Michael J. Stedham of Arlington, Texas. He is the grandson of Mrs. Rita Bedford of Ft. Worth, Texas; the late Mr. Jack Stedham of Ft. Worth, Texas; and the late Mr. and Mrs. Lafoy Patterson of Hamlin, Texas.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride chose a gown of delicate ivory silk satin designed by Reem Acra of New York. The gown featured a strapless bodice, A-line shaped front skirt, and chapel length train that were fully embroidered with stylized gold threadwork and accented with small crystals. To complete her dress the bride wore a full length ivory illusion veil embellished with gold embroidery which matched the gown. She carried a bouquet of bridal white roses, stephanotis, and lily of the valley, hand tied with ivory Midori ribbon.
Miss Paige Elizabeth Gatewood of Katy, Texas and sister of the bride, served as Maid of Honor. Matron of Honor was Mrs. Jody Bohnsack Clark of Frisco, Texas. Bridesmaids included Miss Amanda Leigh Edwards and Miss Mary Nancy Grube of Houston, Texas; Mrs. Christine Bremer Lipscomb of Burbank, California; Mrs. Jessica Schoppe Lonergan of Plano, Texas; and Miss Meredith Lyn Stedham, sister of the groom, of Arlington, Texas. The attendants wore beige crepe chiffon gowns with layered crossover bodices by designer Vera Wang.
Serving as Best Man was Mr. Kyle Lee Wellhausen of Abilene, Texas. Groomsmen included Mr. James Michael Anderson of Houston, Texas; Mr. Austin Parker Collins, Mr. Jon Joseph DaSilva, Mr. Michael Atys DaSilva, and Mr. Brian Joseph Ferguson of Austin, Texas; and Mr. Blake Flynn Holcomb of Washington, D.C.
Honor Attendants were cousins of the bride, Miss Jeana Elizabeth VanSickle of Kansas City, Missouri; and Miss Jill Leann VanSickle, of Wichita, Kansas. Serving as flower girls were Miss Emily Jane Sapp of Deer Park, Texas; and Miss Alexandria Christina VanSickle of Wichita, Kansas. Master Joshua Edward Villarreal of Temple, Texas was the ring bearer.
Members of the house party included Miss Amy Renee Adams and Mrs. Leigh Anne Stinson Mahone of Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Aimee Sammons Bloom of Norman, Oklahoma; and Miss Jaime Lee Cline of Lyndon, Washington. Ushers were Mr. Daniel Luke Harwell and Mr. Rene Ortega of Abilene, Texas; Mr. Christopher Tobin Marks of Austin, Texas; and Mr. Jason Gregory Phipps of Richardson, Texas.
Kristen is a 1997 graduate of Taylor High School in Katy, Texas, and a 2001 Summa Cum Laude graduate of Texas A&M University at College Station, with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She received a Master of Arts in Psychology from Houston Baptist University in February 2004. Nathan is a 1996 graduate of Cooper High School in Abilene, Texas, and a 2001 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He will receive his Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law in December 2004.
Following a honeymoon to the Hawaiian islands, the couple will reside in Houston, Texas.
