Miss Michelle Renee Edwards and Mr. Jeffrey Louis Smith were united in marriage on Saturday, August 23, 2003, at sunset in a beachside ceremony in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. A reception dinner followed at the Aventura Spa Palace Resort. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at FLY restaurant in downtown Playa del Carmen.
The bride is the daughter of Wallace and Marcella Edwards of Houston. She is the granddaughter of Herman and Lillian Grosch of Houston, and the late Wallace Sr. and Lucille Edwards of Houston. The groom is the son of Christopher and Toni Smith of Castle Rock, Colorado. He is the grandson of Ann Santella and the late Louis Santella of Livonia, Michigan and the late Harold and Betty Smith of Brighton, Michigan.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore an elegant strapless gown of white silk satin by Jessica McClintock. The gown had a fitted bodice with a plunging back and an asymmetrical train. Her bridal jewelry was created for her by Jeannine Kocian using fresh water pearls and crystals. Her veil was custom made of white sparkle illusion.
Serving as the Maid of Honor was Miss Jessica Uhlmann of Houston, Texas. The groom's sister, Miss Nicole Marie Smith of Denver, Colorado served as bridesmaid. Serving as the Best Man was the groom's uncle, Mr. James Smith of Sarasota, Florida. The bride's brother, Mr. William Edwards of Houston, Texas served as groomsman.
The bride is a graduate of Eisenhower High School in Houston, Texas. She received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Network Systems Administration from Denver Technical College. She is currently employed at Volvo of Houston as the Internet Manager.
The groom is a graduate of Regis Jesuit in Denver, Colorado. He received a B.S. degree in Kinesiology from the University of Northern Colorado, where he was a member of the 1996 Division II Football National Champions. He is currently employed by Sysco Houston as a marketing associate.
Following their honeymoon in Playa del Carmen, Jeff and Michelle Smith now reside in Houston, Texas.
