Miss Carrie Allison Harper and Mr. Andrew Zarechnak were united in marriage on Sunday, July 13, 2003 at four o'clock in the afternoon at Saint John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Washington, DC. The Very Reverend Father Victor Potopov officiated the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. The cathedral choir sang and Vladimir Ekzarkhov sang a solo. A seated dinner reception followed at the Sequoia, Washington Harbor on the Potomac River. On the day before the wedding, friends of the bride, Carolyn Kares, Margie Koch, and Amanda Kares Koch, all of Houston, Texas, held a bridal brunch at the Fairmont Hotel. That evening after the rehearsal, guests attended a Luau at the home of Patrick and Jill Niehus in Falls Church, Virginia. A reception will be held August 16, at West University Baptist Church, in Houston, Texas.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy P. Harper of Houston, Texas. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Mary Hilton and the late Mr. Richard C. Hilton and Mrs. Ethie Harper and the late Mr. Roy P. Harper, Sr. all of Houston, Texas. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Zarechnak of Oakton, Virginia. He is the grandson of Mr. Vladimir Mutschall and the late Mrs. Lora Mutschall of Alexandria, Virginia and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Zarechnak of Washington, DC.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a Lazaro strapless, A-line gown of white satin with a sweetheart bodice trimmed in red and gold beads and pearls. She wore a matching beaded finger-tip veil over a cathedral veil made by her mother, topped by a beaded and pearl tiara. A gold wedding band belonging to her great-grandmother was also worn. She carried a bouquet of white calla lilies.
Mrs. Amanda Kares Koch of Panama City, Florida served as Matron of Honor. The bridesmaids were Vera Abud of Wilton, Connecticut, Laura Blackmon and Trisha Benka Kennedy of Houston, Texas, Hilary Boboshko of Selkirk, New York and Gretchen Feldtman Brown from Heidelberg, Germany. Miss Jordan Geibel and Master Wylie Geibel, both of Houston, Texas, served as Icon Bearers and flower girl. Honored guests were Heather Hamann of Houston, Texas and Jill Niehus of Falls Church, Virginia.
Mr. Alexis Zarechnak, brother of the groom served as best man. The groomsmen were Nicholas Boboshko of Selkirk, New York, Brian Devido of Falls Church, Virginia, Dimitry Ekzarkhov of Silver Spring, Maryland, Travis Koch of Panama City, Florida, Patrick Niehus of Falls Church, Virginia, and cousins of the groom, Alexander Zarechnak, of Piscataway, New Jersey and Peter Zarechnak, of Silver Spring Maryland. Master Nicholas N. Boboshko served as ring bearer.
The bride is a graduate of Second Baptist High School in Houston, Texas. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Baylor University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, and was recipient of the ArmstrongBrowning Scholarship. She earned her Teaching Certificate from the University of Houston. She will be teaching IB English classes at Lamar High School in Houston, Texas, in the fall.
The groom is a graduate of Oakton High School of Oakton, Virginia. He received his degree in Aerospace Engineering from Virginia Tech State University, where he also played on the Varsity Basketball team. He is currently employed by NASA as Capcom in Mission Control and is the Technical Lead for the Russian Training Integration Instructors.
Following a honeymoon to Hawaii and the French Polynesian Islands in the South Pacific, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Zarechnak will reside in Houston.
