Miss Patricia Eileen O'Brien and Mr. Yuri Hans Adrian van der Wiel were united in holy matrimony on Saturday, the twelfth of July, 2003 at half past two o'clock in the afternoon at St. Cyril of Alexandria Catholic Church. The double-ring ceremony was officiated by Deacon Jim Sharpless, with music provided by pianist and soloist Ms. Nicki Maddox. Miss Michelle Baumgarth, friend of the bride, and Mr. Victor Davis, brother-in-law of the bride, gave Scripture readings. Following the ceremony, the parents of the bride and groom hosted a dinner reception at The Adam's Mark Hotel in the Rosegarden Room. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Classic Tandoor.
Patricia is the daughter of Jerry and Nancy O'Brien of Houston, TX. The groom is the son of Hans and Ilona van der Wiel of Fulshear, TX.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride selected an elegant silk and chiffon gown by Audrey. The A-line gown featured an empire waist with delicate crystal and pearl details and was complimented by a dual length veil and a custom pearl tiara by Malis Henderson. The bride carried a round, hand-tied bouquet of variegated pink French tulips and stephanotis with pearl centers, with bear grass accents woven throughout.
Mrs. Valerie Davis served her sister as Matron of Honor. The bridesmaids included Ms. Erica O'Brien, sister of the bride, and Ms. Laura Labay, friend of the bride and groom. The flower girl was Annabella Davis, 4, niece of the bride.
Mr. Hans van der Wiel served as his son's Best Man. Groomsmen included Mr. Shaun Kelley and Mr. Ken Laney, friends of the groom. The groom, originally from Holland, was honored to have his Aunt Cora and Uncle Gejs Beekhuizen of Holland at the wedding celebration.
The bride is a 1997 graduate of University of Houston Central with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design. She is currently employed as an Account Executive at The Houston Chronicle. The groom is a 1998 graduate of the University of Houston Downtown with a Bachelor of Science in Disciplinary Studies. Currently he is Director at Shaun Kelley Weight Control in Houston.
Following a honeymoon trip to St. Lucia, Mr. and Mrs. van der Wiel will reside in Houston, TX.
