Miss Batrina Antoinette Martin and Mr. Joseph Donnell Wesley were united in marriage on Saturday, July 5, 2003, at six o'clock in the evening at The DoubleTree Post Oak Hotel in Houston, Texas. The Rev. Edward E. Coates officiated the double-ring ceremony. Music was provided by Mr. Bobby Kellum, vocalist, Mr. Phillip Hall, pianist, Mr. Darryl Bayer, trumpeter, and Ms. Joanna Elliott, harpist. Ms. Tonya Johnson of Powder Springs, Georgia, gave a scripture reading. Following the nuptials, the bride's parents hosted dinner and dancing at The DoubleTree Post Oak Grand Ballroom with music provided by Bynam Productions. On the eve of the wedding, a Fourth of July themed rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom at Pappa's BBQ.
The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Barry Alan Martin of Houston and the granddaughter of Mrs. Mary Alexander and the late Mr. James E. Alexander, and Mrs. Barbara Martin and the late Mr. Elwin A. Martin. The groom is the son of Mr. Daniel Wesley of Brookhaven, Mississippi, and Mrs. Phyllis Wesley of New Orleans, and the grandson of Mrs. Betty Johnson Washington of Brookhaven, Mississippi, Mr. Phillip Williams of Detroit, Michigan, the late Mr. George Wesley of Indianapolis, Indiana, and the late Mrs. Nira Lee Bledsoe of Brookhaven, Mississippi.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a gown designed by Reem Acra of New York. The strapless gown of diamond white satin featured a white and silver beaded bodice with a full skirt and cathedral length train also adorned with white and silver beaded appliques. Paris of New York accented the ensemble with a chapel length veil of soft white illusion with white satin piping and a jeweled tiara.
Serving the bride as maids of honor were Ms. Brittany Martin and Ms. Aja Young, both of Houston, Texas. The bridesmaids were Ms. LaKisha Beckham, Ms. Temika Broussard, Ms. Angel Brumfield, Ms. Monique Robinson, Ms. Charlie Vaughn, Ms. Carolyn Wesley, Ms. Gloria Wesley, and Ms. Mary Wesley. The junior bridesmaids were Miss Courtni Martin and Miss Crystal Lynne Martin. The attendants wore cinnamon-berry double-faced taffeta in various styles by Lazaro. Little Miss Samantha Hatton, Little Miss Maiym Howard, Little Miss Chloe Phea, and Little Miss Taylor Williams served the bride as flower girls. The hostesses include Ms. Keidra Lane, Ms. Tiffany Roy, and Ms. Ashley Young.
Mr. Mike Bledsoe and Mr. Daniel D. Wesley served as best men. Serving as Groomsmen were Mr. Cedric Donaldson, Mr. Charles Hatton, Mr. Sherman Hatton, Mr. Barry Martin Jr., Mr. Roshaun Matthews, Mr. Arnold Miller, Mr. Eric Williams Jr., and Mr. Terran Williams. The junior groomsmen were Mr. James Lee Howard Jr. and Mr. Orlando Wesley. Master Gregory Phea Jr. served as ring bearer. Ushers included Mr. David Maxwell Brewer III, Mr. Langston Davis, Mr. Frederick Griffin Jr., Mr. Brandon Hatton, Mr. Raymond Hatton III, and Mr. Brandon Hatton. The groom and all of his attendants wore tuxedos designed by Perry Ellis.
The bride is a graduate of Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg, Texas. She received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/Pre-Law from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Batrina is currently completing her Masters in Business Administration at the University of Houston.
The groom is a graduate of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. He received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Safety. He is currently a free agent in the National Football League.
Following a honeymoon in Negril, Jamaica, Batrina and Joseph will reside in Houston, Texas.
