Miss Kathryn Carter Lee and Mr. William Stockard Bragan II were united in marriage on Saturday, August 9, 2003 at seven o'clock in the evening at the First Presbyterian Church of Houston. The double ring ceremony was officiated by the Reverend Dr. John Wm. Lancaster and the Reverend William Vanderbloemen. The music was provided by Mr. Robert MacDonald, organist, and by Mr. Dan Shipman, trumpeter. The soprano soloist was Mrs. Leigh Shipman. Following the ceremony, the bride's parents hosted a reception at the Junior League of Houston with music provided by Eclipse. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's mother hosted a rehearsal dinner at Brennan's.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Gentry Lee of Houston, Texas. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James H. Kerr, Jr. of Houston, Texas and the late Mr. and Mrs. Gentry Lee of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The groom is the son of Ms. Jo Ann Bostic Bragan and the late Mr. William Stockard Bragan of Birmingham, Alabama. He is the grandson of Mrs. Rose Vetrano Bostic and the late Mr. Walter A. Bostic and the late Mr. and Mrs. Asher S. Bragan, Jr., all of Birmingham, Alabama.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a sleeveless gown of ivory silk satin designed by Richard Glasgow. The fitted bodice was sculptured in silk and enhanced by intricate pearl and crystal beading tracing the neckline and waist. The simple A-line skirt flowed into a chapel-length train and was complemented by her veil of ivory French illusion edged with narrow satin ribbon. The bride carried a bouquet of white roses, orchids, hydrangea, and stephanotis.
Mrs. Robyn Gerth Schapiro of Houston, Texas served as Matron of Honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Suzanne Williams Chatigny of Marietta, Georgia, Miss Keely Golden Drouet of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Courtney Kessler Lauriat of Arlington, Massachusetts, Mrs. Amy Hughes Lee, sister-in-law of the bride, of Houston, Texas, Miss Courtney Nicole Oldham of Arlington, Virginia, Mrs. Deblyn Bragan Owen, sister of the groom, of Birmingham, Alabama, Mrs. Mary Lee Watts of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Baade Lucas Wilson of Atlanta, Georgia. Members of the bride's houseparty were Miss Nell Frances Connally of Austin, Texas, Mrs. Christi Wooldridge Megow and Mrs. Anne Caudill Miller, both of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Callie Nash Sandman, of Lakeland, Florida, and Miss Carter Carruth Walker, cousin of the bride, of Victoria, Texas.
Mr. Stuart Allen Schardin of New York, New York served as Best Man. Groomsmen were Mr. James Alexander Cain of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Mr. Austin Brent Carr, Mr. Daniel Patrick Connally, Mr. William Gentry Lee, Jr., brother of the bride, Mr. Thomas Wells McGee, all of Houston, Texas, Mr. James Frasher Murphy of Fort Worth, Texas, Mr. David Wayne Owen, brother-in-law of the groom, of Birmingham, Alabama, and Mr. Bradley Phillip Poteet of Houston, Texas. Serving as ushers were Mr. Scott David Fisher of Reston, Virginia, Mr. James H. Kerr IV, cousin of the bride, of Houston, Texas, Mr. Jonathan Carruth Kerr, cousin of the bride, of Austin, Texas, and Mr. Ronald Bruce Walker, Jr., cousin of the bride, of Victoria, Texas. Master William Gentry Lee III, nephew of the bride, and Master Manning Wayne Owen and Master Wilson Bragan Owen, nephews of the groom, served as ring bearers. The ring bearers carried a small pillow of peau de soie and alencon lace made from the wedding dress of the mother of the bride.
The bride graduated from St. John's School in Houston and was a cum laude graduate of Vanderbilt University, having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She is a member of Chi Omega sorority. She recently received her Masters in Business Administration at the Jones Graduate School of Management at Rice University. The groom graduated from Pelham High School in Birmingham, Alabama and was a magna cum laude graduate of Vanderbilt University, having earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering. He was elected to membership in Tau Beta Pi and is a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. The groom earned his Masters of Science in Chemical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Mr. Bragan is employed with ExxonMobil in Houston.
Following a honeymoon trip to Hawaii, the couple will reside in Houston.
