Miss Kathryn Brooke Burney and Mr. Jeffery Powell Zarr were united in marriage on Saturday, June 21, 2003, at half past seven in the evening at Chapelwood United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. The candlelight double-ring ceremony was performed by The Reverend Dr. Jim Jackson, with music provided by Dr. Joby Bell, organist, Mr. Dan Shipman, trumpeter and Mr. David Oelfke, soloist. Scripture was read by Mr. Travis Riggs Winfrey. A reception followed at Lakeside Country Club with music provided by Grady Gaines. On the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's parents at Houston Country Club.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Morrow Burney III of Houston. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Lovie Kilgore Sellers Dixon of Birmingham, Alabama and the late Mr. Clarence Earl Sellers, Jr. and Mr and Mrs. William Morrow Burney, Jr. of Tyler, Texas.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Sinclair Zarr of Houston, Texas. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Galetin Flowers of Houston, Texas and the late Dr. Luther Lynn Zarr of Houston, Texas and the late Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Franklin Strater of Houston, Texas.
Given by her parents in marriage and escorted by her father, Brooke wore a gown fashioned of ivory silk gazar designed by Amsale Aberra of New York. The strapless fitted bodice was accented with re-embroidered Alencon lace panels which extended the length of the gown to the floor. At the waist the bride custom designed a pleated silk satin sash with long streamers to the back. The gown's full A-line skirt cascaded into a chapel length train. Complimenting her gown, the bride wore a waterfall veil of silk illusion.
Serving the bride as Maids of Honor were Miss Megan Bendy Barnett of Dallas, Texas and Miss Whitney Jean Miller of Houston, Texas. The bridesmaids were Mrs. Linsley Bichler Burney, sister-in-law to the bride, Miss Lindsey Paige Caven, Miss Sally Kathleen Christy, Miss Leslie Ann Floeck, Miss Rachael Burns Miclette, and Miss Natalie West all of Houston, Texas, Miss Claire Persons Bourland and Miss Molly Shelby Duvall of Dallas, Texas and Sarah Kate Stroube of Corsicana, Texas, and Miss Adelaide Craig Hassenfelt of Greensboro, North Carolina. Serving as Flower Girl was Miss Paulette Mackenzie Zarr, niece of the groom, of Houston. Master Lynn Sinclair Zarr III of Houston, nephew of the groom, served as the Ring Bearer. The Bridal House Party included Miss Allison Beth Burke, Miss Tennessee Jeanne Cline, Miss Elizabeth Kathleen Riddle and Miss Suzanne Smith all of Houston, Texas, Miss Carolyn Blake Hough and Miss Whitney Ann Hough, cousins of the bride, of Tyler, Texas.
Mr. Lynn Sinclair Zarr of Houston, father of the groom, served as Best Man. Groomsmen included Mr. Lynn Sinclair Zarr, Jr. and Mr. David Strater Zarr, brothers of the groom, Mr. William Brent Burney, Mr. Mark Brian Burney and Mr. Michael Scott Burney, brothers of the bride, Mr. Wil Cummings Brown. Mr. Jason Patrick Dillee, Mr. Jonathan Wells Filgo, Mr. Louis Monroe Pearce IV, Mr. Christopher Rowan Pitts and Mr. Forrest Jacob Wynn all from Houston. The bride is a graduate of Memorial High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Corporate Communications from The University of Texas in Austin. She is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Brooke is currently employed as an event director of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Houston.
The groom is a graduate of Kinkaid High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Advertising from The University of Texas in Austin. He is a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Jeff is currently employed at Heritage Texas Properties as construction manager.
Following a honeymoon in Hawaii, the couple will reside in Houston, Texas.
