Miss Mary Karen Kelly and Mr. Frederic Logan Miller, Jr. were united in marriage on June 7, 2003 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. The double ring ceremony was officiated by Father John Rooney of St. Michael Catholic Church and Father Patrick Kelly of Indianapolis, Indiana. Father Kelly, uncle of the bride, officiated the wedding of the bride's parents in 1964. In addition, Father Kelly also baptised Karen, gave her first communion and facilitated her confirmation.
The bride walked down the aisle to Mendelssohn's Wedding March performed on the bagpipes. Ceremony music was performed by organist Norman Sutphin. Following the ceremony, a jazz brunch reception was held at the Junior League of Houston. Music was provided by Scott Graham on piano, accompanied by a saxophonist. The couple's first dance was "Georgia On My Mind." On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at River Oaks Country Club. A bridesmaid luncheon at Cafe Adobe was hosted by Matron of Honor and aunt of the bride, Linda Witherspoon Elledge.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Edna Kelly and the late Mr. Charles Terrance Kelly of Henderson, Nevada, where they retired after moving from Birmingham, Michigan. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George E. Witherspoon of Birmingham, Michigan and Boca Raton, Florida, and of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kelly of Indianapolis, Indiana.
The groom is the son of the late Mrs. Lucretia Taylor Miller, and Mr. and Mrs. Frederic L. Miller of Shreveport, Louisiana. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hollis H. Miller and the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack L. Taylor, both of Shreveport.
Given in marriage by her family and escorted by her uncle, Dan Elledge of Atlanta, Georgia, the bride wore an elegant offthe-shoulder chiffon gown in ivory from designer Oleg Cassini, and an angel-cut veil with satin trim. The bride's gown was accented by a double-strand pearl necklace, as well as a three-strand pearl bracelet with a diamond clasp given to her by the groom on the eve of the wedding. The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of ninety peach, cream and white roses. Aunt of the bride Mrs. Linda Witherspoon Elledge served as Matron of Honor. Miss Stephanie Suzanne Hendricks of Washington, D.C. served as Maid of Honor. Bridesmaids were cousin of the groom, Miss Katherine Tyson Miller of Houston, Mrs. Ashley Perkins McQueen of Houston, Mrs. Becky Pargen Sompel of Dubai, United Arab Emirates and Miss Kristi Ann Kittendorf of Los Angeles, California.
Mr. Paul Anthony Grant of Nashville, Tennessee served as Best Man. Groomsmen were brother of the groom Mr. Jack Ryan Miller of Shreveport, Mr. John Andrew Maddox of Houston, Mr. Josh Patrick Parham of Houston, Mr. Mark O'Neil Rodden of Evansville, Indiana and Mr. Matthew Dennis Deming of Dallas.
The bride received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia and is a member of Sigma Kappa sorority. She serves on the Board of Directors of the University of Georgia National Alumni Association, and is president of the Houston Georgia Alumni Club. Karen is also a member of the Junior League of Houston. She is a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines.
The groom received his Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Mississippi, where he was a member and officer of Sigma Pi fraternity. Logan is the president of the Houston Rebel Club, and is a member of the Directions and Assistance Committee for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He is a Marketing Specialist for AIM Investments.
Following a honeymoon to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, the couple will reside in Houston.
