Kathryn Louise Nance and Adam David Roark were joined by family and friends as they were united in marriage on Saturday, June 7, 2003, in Washington, North Carolina, on the lawn of the bride's home. A reception immediately followed. The Reverends Charles McCullough and Bill Olsen officiated at the double ring ceremony. Readings were given by Dr. James Mathison Skelton and Mr. Hugh Jones Plummer, Jr. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted an evening of dinner and dancing at Cowlick Farm, home of Dr. and Mrs. James Barr Coleman.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Kinchen Nance, Jr., of Washington, North Carolina. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Marvin Freeman, Jr., of Washington, North Carolina, and Mr. and Mrs. James Kinchen Nance and the late Kathryn Spence Nance of Houston. The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. David Tuxworth Roark of Houston. He is the grandson of Mrs. Joseph Francis Tyng and the late Mr. Tyng, and Mrs. Alfred Weldon Roark and the late Mr. Roark of Houston.
Serving as the bride's matrons of honor were Mrs. Erin Rhodes Gould of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Mrs. Jana Nicole Plummer of Houston. Bridesmaids were Miss Kelly Michele Perry of Houston, Miss Mary Kathryn Roark of Austin, sister-in-law of the bride, and Miss Nicole Elizabeth Woolard of Charlotte, North Carolina. Members of the house party were Mrs. Deana Faye Freeman of Houston, Mrs. Courtney Phillips Hyder of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mrs. Amy Harkins Irwin of Galveston, Mrs. Katie Coleman Koon of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Miss Margaret Carolyn Ogilvie of Houston.
Serving as the groom's best men were his father, Dr. David Tuxworth Roark of Houston and his brother, Mr. Daniel Joseph Roark of Austin. The groomsmen were Mr. David Ralph Bethel, Mr. Chad Peyton Collins, and Mr. Daryl Andrew Crown, all of Houston. Serving as ushers were Dr. James Parker Gregg of Houston, Mr. Thomas Richard Hegi of Lubbock, Mr. William Kelly Looney of Austin, Mr. Donald Prokop Roark of New York City, cousin of the groom, and Mr. Chad Upham of San Antonio.
The bride is a graduate of the Lawrenceville School of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received Bachelor of Arts degrees in history and Spanish and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She received her Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center and is an associate with Bracewell & Patterson, L.L.P., in Houston.
The groom graduated from Memorial High School in Houston, and Texas A&M University, where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He is employed by Sysco Corporation as a business analyst.
Following a honeymoon to Petit St. Vincent in the Grenadines, the couple will reside in Houston.
