Miss Melissa Ann Wilson and Mr. David Howard Cook were united in holy matrimony on Saturday, May 31, 2003 at four o'clock in the afternoon at Second Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. The double ring ceremony was performed by Reverend Lee Maxcy, with music provided by organist Mr. Marvin Gaspard, harpist Miss Christina Villafranco, and soloists Miss Sarah Welch and Mr. Alan Fath. Readings were given by Ms. Michelle Casas, Ms. Cecilia Sinclair, Mr. Mike Barajas and Mr. Jerome Gray. A reception followed at Paraiso Maravilla with the band Kristopher providing music for dinner and dancing. On the eve of the wedding, the bride's mother hosted a bridal luncheon at Kilworth Manor and the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at La Strada.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Wilson of Denison Texas. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil A. Rains of Pearland, Texas and Mr. and Mrs. Hershel Wilson of Electra, Texas. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cook of Granbury. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Amos Lee Kinnibrugh and the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe Delbert Cook.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a white sheath gown of beaded English net over Japanese crepe. It featured a sweetheart neckline embellished with beads and Austrian crystals. The soft, flowing chapel train fell in cloudlike folds and ended in an all around scalloped baby hem. A cathedral two-tier train of illusion was beaded and scalloped to match the dress. Her headpiece was a tiara of pearls and crystals.
Maid of honor was Ms. Caroline Matthews of Houston. Bridesmaids were Ms. Beth Elias, Mrs. Cindy Garza Farmer, Ms. Shawnie Maffett, all of Houston and Ms. Julie Swain of Tallahassee, Florida . Ms. Rosemarie DiMarco of Houston greeted guests at the registry table. Lauren Harris of Haslet, Texas, cousin of the bride, served as flowergirl. The ringbearer was Alex Wilson of Kemp, Texas, nephew of the bride.
Mr. Howard Cook of Granbury served his son as best man. Groomsmen were Mr. David Harris of New York City, Mr. Toby Holt of Houston, Mr. John Rosales of Denver, Colorado, and Mr. Kip Watkins of Houston. Serving as ushers were Mr. Randy Fric of Houston, Mr. Mark Herron of Austin , Texas, Mr. Albert Ramirez of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Mr. Steve Simpson of Los Angeles, California.
The bride is a graduate of Baylor University where she was president of her sorority Sigma Kappa. She is a news anchor at KRIV-TV, Fox 26 of Houston. The bride is an active member of the Houston community, serving as emcee and spokesperson for local charities and organizations. She serves on the Advisory Board of the Baylor Business Network of Houston, the Board of Directors for Children at Risk, is a member of the networking group Ambassador's Club, the Baylor Women's Association of Houston, and the Greater Houston Sigma Kappa Alumni Association. She has served on the Board of Directors for the March of Dimes of Leon County and as a volunteer for the Christian Community Service Center.
The groom is a graduate of Texas Tech University and is Vice President of Maass Flange Corporation. He is a member of the Riverbend Country Club.
Following a honeymoon to London and Spain, the couple will reside in Houston.
