Miss Elizabeth Austin Cook and Mr. Lee Engel Jenkins were united in marriage on Saturday, May 31, 2003 at half after seven in the evening at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. The double ring ceremony was officiated by Dr. James W. Moore. The Reverend John T. King read the Scriptures. The music was provided by Mr. Rob Landes, organist, and by a string quartet including violinists Andres Gonzalez and Gosia Leska, violist Daphne Gerling and cellist Richard Belcher. The soprano soloist was Ms. Dalma Boronkai. Following the ceremony, the bride's parents hosted a reception at the Bayou Club with music by Yvonne Washington & The Mix and by the Grady Lee duo. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at River Oaks Country Club.
The bride, a seventh generation Texan, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Carter Cook of Houston, Texas. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Denton Cooley Priest and the late Mr. Priest and the late Mr. and Mrs. Raymond A. Cook, all of Houston. The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Logan Burris Jenkins of La Jolla, California. He is the grandson of Mrs. Robert Ernst Engel and the late Mr. Engel of Toronto, Canada and the late Mr. and Mrs. Logan Hocker Jenkins of San Diego, California.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore an elegant gown of soft white organza designed by Elizabeth Fillmore of New York. The strapless sheath featured a delicate design of trailing rose buds embossed with embroidery and silk organza. The overlay flared gracefully from the waist into a chapel length train. The bride's ensemble was completed by a ribbon edged veil of soft illusion of fingertip length designed by Tia Mazza of New York. She carried a formal cascade of gardenias, lily of the valley, freesia, stephanotis and hydrangea.
Miss Laura Michelle Oshlo of Houston served as Maid of Honor and Mrs. Kathryn Lent Van Wie, also of Houston, served as Matron of Honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Nell Frances Connally of Austin, Mrs. Melissa Rosenbauer Harbin and Mrs. Jill Perkins Hare, both of Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs. Darcy Heurtematte Langdon of New York, New York, Miss Carolyn Jennings Merriman of Austin and Miss Jacqueline Alice White of Houston. The bridesmaids wore strapless French blue double faced taffeta gowns with a caramel inverted back pleat designed by Lazaro and carried bouquets of pink and red roses with accents of caramel. Flower girls were Misses Elizabeth Marie and Emily Weddington Mebane of Santa Monica, California, whose great-grandfather was a Houston law partner of the bride's grandfather and great-grandfather. Members of the bride's houseparty were Miss Nancy Carrington Hutcheson of Austin, Miss Kathryn Carter Lee of Houston and Miss Stacy Elizabeth Rogers of Austin.
Dr. Logan Burris Jenkins, father of the groom, served as Best Man. Groomsmen were Mr. David Joseph Bramzon of Los Angeles, California, Mr. Arthur Oakley Brooks of Portland, Oregon, Mr. Stephen Denton Cook, brother of the bride, of Los Angeles, Mr. Robert William Edison Fry of Atlanta, Mr. Tyler Colvin Hobbs of Washington, D.C., Mr. Jesse James Saivar of Los Angeles and Mr. Tyler Thomas Wilkinson of Santa Monica.
Serving as ushers were Mr. J. Tyler Kepner of Stamford, Connecticut, Mr. David Wayne Paris, cousin of the bride, of Houston, Mr. Neil Andrew Vigdor of Greenwich, Connecticut and Mr. Daniel Joseph Wolken of Denver, Colorado.
The bride is a graduate of St. John's School and Vanderbilt University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree and was a member of Chi Omega sorority. Elizabeth is employed by Embrey Papers in Los Angeles. The groom is a graduate of The Bishop's School in La Jolla and Vanderbilt University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and served as Editor-in-Chief of the University newspaper. He was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. Lee covers UCLA as a sportswriter for the Orange County Register in Santa Ana, California.
Following a wedding trip to Italy, the couple will be at home in Marina del Rey, California.
