Miss Kelly Kay Hammonds and Mr. Matthew Owen Thomas were united in marriage on Saturday, May 24, 2003 at seven o'clock in the evening at First United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. Reverend Charles Thompson performed the double ring ceremony that was accompanied by a string quartet, trumpet players and a bagpipe player provided by Chamber of Music and Best Entertainers. A reception followed at The Metropolitan Ballroom with music provided by Sammy Relford and Friends.
The day before the wedding a golf tournament was hosted by the father and brothers of the bride at BlackHorse Country Club. A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the mother of the groom at Grappino d'Nino. The day of the wedding a bridal luncheon was hosted by the step mother of the bride at Prego and a manicure/pedicure session was provided for the bride and her attendants at Beautique.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Hammonds and Ms. Kay Hammonds of Houston. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Georgia Standerfer of Hale Center and the late Mr. Edward Standerfer, and Mrs. Mae Hammonds of Vernon and the late W.B. Hammonds. The groom is the son of Mrs. Carol Thomas of Missouri City and the late Don Thomas. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Thomas, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Owen.
Miss Meghan Hammonds of Houston served as Maid of Honor. The bridesmaids were: Miss Amanda Cox of Omaha, Mrs. Jennifer Hammonds of Houston, Mrs. Lauren Hammonds of Houston, Miss Jennifer Hanlen of Houston, Miss Jenna Hinch of Houston, Mrs. Brigitte Huff of Dallas, and Miss Ashlee Myrick of Houston. The flower girls were Miss Mackenzie Hammonds of Houston and Miss Lindsey Roberts of Wichita Falls. Mrs. Marti Barley and Mrs. Marilee Belote, both of Irving, TX, greeted guests with wedding programs, and Miss Jenna Hammonds of Houston signed guests in upon entry. Miss Caityln Kelly of Missouri City read passages of scripture.
Mr. James McSpadden of The Woodlands served as Best Man. The groomsmen were Mr. Mike Becker of Houston, Mr. Chuck Childers of Houston, Mr. Greg Hammonds of Houston, Mr. Jason Hammonds of Houston, Mr. Chris Schroen of Ohio, Mr. Aaron Tucci of Houston, and Mr. Greg Wheeler of Houston. The ring bearer was Tyler Roberts of Wichita Falls. Serving as ushers were Clay Carson of Houston, John Cox of New Caney, Jimmy Jongebloed of Houston, Cody Kelly of Missouri City, Mike Kelly of Missouri City, and Nick Manteris of Houston.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a light ivory silk duchess satin gown made by Lazaro. The strapless gown featured a hand embroidered and beaded bodice with a bias band and a tailored bow under the bust line. The horizontal waist line began the boxpleated skirt and the chapel train. The matching ivory chapel tulle veil was accented with ivory and pink hand beaded embroidery.
The bride is a graduate of Texas Christian University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Advertising and Public Relations. She is currently an Account Manager for Interior Technologies. The groom is a graduate of Southwest Texas State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance. He is currently employed as a Sales Manager for Pictometry.
Following a honeymoon in Aruba, the couple will reside in Houston.
