Dr. Ava Erin Manning and Mr. Frank Michael Verducci, Jr. were united in marriage on Saturday, April 5, 2003 at six o'clock in the evening at Chapelwood United Methodist Church in Houston. The Reverend James Michael Turley officiated at the double-ring ceremony. A seated dinner reception followed at The Houstonian with The Atlantics providing music for dancing. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at The Petroleum Club in downtown Houston.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wylie Manning IV of Longview. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Manning, Jr. of Houston and the late Harriet Murray Clark of Atlanta, Georgia, and the late Richard Alexander Clark, Sr. of Houston. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Michael Verducci of Colonia, New Jersey. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Angelo Vespa of Toms River, New Jersey and Mrs. John Verducci and the late Mr. John Verducci of Maplewood, New Jersey.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a strapless gown of imported Italian ivory satin from Richard Glasgow's Ricardo Collection. It had a corset styled bodice beaded with seed pearls and clear crystal rondeles, with emphasis placed at the waist and top of the bodice. The slim a-line skirt featured satin covered bridal buttons and loops extending to the hem of the chapel length train. Her headpiece was a tiara of pearls and crystals with a cathedral and elbow length veil.
Mrs. Heidi Manning Archer of Longview served her sister as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Katrina Kanetzky Manning, sister-in-law of the bride, of Corpus Christi, Miss Lisa Verducci, sister of the groom, of Colonia, New Jersey, Mrs. Molly Reese Ward, cousin of the bride, and Dr. Shelly LeedsRichter, both of Houston, Mrs. Christine Diane Bowman of Round Rock, Mrs. Kathleen Hawthorne Ferrier of San Diego, California, Dr. Sarah Vondrak Gernhart of Fremont, Nebraska, Miss Julia Meador Jordan of Portland, Oregon, Dr. Bridget Murphy Marroquin of Timberlake, North Carolina, and Miss Laura Elizabeth McAndrew of Austin.
Included in the House Party were Mrs. Allison Carpenter Yoder of Newport Beach, California, and Miss Mary Katherine Carpenter of Forth Worth, both cousins of the bride. Flower girls were Miss Madeline Clair Archer, niece of the bride, and Miss Lily Cameron Ward, cousin of the bride.
Mr. John Anthony Verducci of Colonia, New Jersey, brother of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Joe Wylie Manning V, brother of the bride, of Corpus Christi, Mr. Kendall Mark Archer, brother-in-law of the bride, of Longview, Mr. Rick Joseph Chesky of Scotch Plains, New Jersey, Mr. James Robert Christiano of Chatham, New Jersey, Mr. David Thomas Rubulotta of New York, New York, Captain Paul Martin Schimpf of San Diego, Lieutenant Thomas David Schmidt of St. Charles, Missouri, Mr. James Varnado Williams III of Washington D.C., Mr. Eric Steven Winter of Crownsville, Maryland, and Mr. Wesley Ralph Ward of Houston.
The music for the ceremony was provided by Mr. Thomas Jaber, organist and pianist, Dr. Katherine Eliassen Marley of Lincoln, Nebraska, cellist, and Mr. James Brookhart Hickman of Houston, vocalist. Scripture was read by Mr. Douglas Manning Reese, cousin of the bride, and Mrs. Gay Foley Stricklin, both of Houston.
The bride graduated magna cum laude with honors from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas in 1993 and then received an MD from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. After completing her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, she entered private practice in Houston. The groom is a 1993 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and a former naval aviator. He will graduate in June from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business with an M.B.A. in Finance.
Following a honeymoon in Maui and Kauai, the couple will reside in Houston.
