Miss Ruth Binkerd Stephenson and Mr. Craig Alan Emrick were united in Holy Matrimony on Saturday, February 8, 2003 at seven o'clock in the evening at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas. The Reverend Kristin Huffman officiated at the candlelight double ring ceremony. Mrs. Margaret Keller Emrick, sister-in-law of the groom was the soloist, accompanied by organist Kathryn Sparks, and trumpeter Dan Shipman. Scriptures were read by Mrs. Jane Burnham Butler and Mr. Dorman Brian Gregory. The blessing of the marriage was given by Mr. B. Davis Butler, Jr. A reception followed at The Forest Club with music by Dave Caceres and the Texas Trio. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted the rehearsal dinner at The Petroleum Club.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Ruth Binkerd Peters Stephenson and Mr. Cecil Blalock Stephenson, Jr. of Houston, Texas. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lovett Chase Peters of Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, formerly of Houston, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Blalock Stephenson of Houston, Texas.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thomas Emrick of Sunbury, Ohio, and the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jefferson Emrick of Westerville, Ohio, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Wenzel Oak Early of Westerville, Ohio.
Given in marriage by her mother and father, and escorted by her father, the bride wore an ivory silk charmeuse gown with silk embossed organdy overlay, designed by Melissa Sweet. The gown had a dropped waist bodice, detailed with bands of charmeuse. The neckline was a simple halter band of silk charmeuse. The gown had a full a-line skirt with side split detail finished in ribbons. The back was detailed with covered buttons, and an elegant demi-cathedral length train.
Her mantilla of ivory silk organza was finished in the corners with beautiful pearl and crystal flower clusters. In her hair she wore a piece of lace that her Great-Great Grandfather brought from Belgium for his daughter, Ruth Binkerd. It has been worn by four generations of Ruth Binkerds. The freshwater pearl necklace was given to the bride's Great Grandmother by her groom. Ruthie wore pearl and diamond earrings designed to match the necklace, a gift from her groom. She carried an ivory handkerchief adorned with hand crocheting. The handkerchief was carried by the groom's Great Aunt on her wedding day in 1916.
Serving the bride as maid of honor was Miss Sela Ann Missirian of Atlanta, Georgia. Bridesmaids were Miss Heather Christine Henson of Fort Worth, Texas; Miss Carol Kathleen Kahil of Houston, Texas; Mrs. Sandra Alexander Lanclos of St. Petersburg, Florida; and Miss Heather Lynne Van Sice of Atlanta, Georgia. Junior Bridesmaids were Miss Abigail Christine Peters of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Miss Julia Hannah Peters of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, both cousins of the bride.
The honorary attendants were Mrs. Allison Quayle Hall, Ms. Catherine Grace Henderson, and Mrs. Jeanne Jackson Pfeffer, all of Houston. Samuel Kittredge Peters of Boston, Massachusetts, was in charge of the guest book, his gift to the bride and groom. The greeter was Wesley Chase Peters of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Serving the groom as best man was Mr. Michael Larry Briggs of Charlotte, North Carolina. Groomsmen were Mr. B. Davis Butler Jr. of Decatur, Georgia; Mr. Jeffrey Alan Emrick of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, brother of the groom; Mr. C. Blalock "Blake" Stephenson III of Austin, Texas, and Mr. Kittredge Taylor Stephenson of Santa Fe, New Mexico, both brothers of the bride.
Ushers were Mr. Charles Dewey Barham, III of Atlanta, Georgia, Mr. Dorman Bryan Gregory of Summerfield, North Carolina, and Mr. R. David Marmion of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The bride graduated from The Kinkaid School in Houston, Texas. She attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado, and graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She is currently in public relations for the Latin American region with Turner Broadcasting in Atlanta, Georgia.
The groom graduated from Worthington Christian High School in Worthington, Ohio. He received his Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the Wayne Calloway School of Business and Accountancy at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He is currently a manager in the Transaction Services group of PricewaterhouseCoopers in Atlanta, Georgia, and New York City, New York.
After a surprise honeymoon from the groom, Mr. and Mrs. Emrick will be at home in Atlanta, Georgia.
