Miss Samantha Ann Whelan and Mr. Hayes Weber Masucci were united in marriage on Saturday, December 7, 2002, at eleven o'clock in the morning at the Chapel of The Sacred Heart at Duchesne Academy in Houston, Texas. Father Louis Brusatti of Austin, Texas, and the Reverend Jeffrey Clemens of Bedford, Virginia, performed the double ring ceremony. Music was provided by The Dave Zegar Strings and by soloist Mrs. Rita Stuckey. The reception followed at The St. Regis with music provided by Grady Gaines and the Texas Upsetters. A Bride's Breakfast, hosted by Mrs. James Nicholson of Midland, Texas, and Miss Jody Nicholson of Austin, Texas, was held on the day before the wedding at the Daily Review Cafe. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner in the Pontchartrain Room of Willie G's on Post Oak.
The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Bobbie DeLaney Whelan of Houston, Texas, and Mr. Thomas Whelan III of McAllen, Texas. She is the granddaughter of Mr. Robert DeLaney of Lamkin, Texas, and the late Mrs. Sybil DeLaney, and the late Mr. Thomas Whelan, Jr. and Mrs. Ann Bussa Whelan of Houston, Texas. Samantha is the great-niece of Mrs. Gayle Love of Lamkin, Texas. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Masucci of Houston and York Harbor, Maine. He is the grandson of Mrs. Sophie Weber of Houston and the late Mr. Frederick Heller Weber of Schenectady, New York, and the late Mr. Lawrence J. Masucci and Mrs. Catherine Hayes Masucci of Northport, Long Island, New York.
Given in marriage by her parents, and escorted by her father, the bride wore a gown designed collaboratively by Jonas and Ursula Hegewisch for Wearkstatt of Germany. The slim a-line silhouette featured a bateau neckline. The gown's natural waistline was trimmed with an organza band hand embroidered with dainty flowers, clear rondele shaped crystals, and silver mirrored beads.
Serving her sister as Maid of Honor was Miss Emily Sashel Whelan of New York, New York. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Autumn Watson Helfert of Scottsdale, Arizona, Mrs. Jennifer Kimbro Lamkin and Mrs. Melanie Michael Rhode of Houston, Texas. Flower girls were Miss Allegra Eva Hernandez of Deming, New Mexico, cousin of the bride, and Misses Jordan Michelle Lamkin and Emma Jane Rhode of Houston, Texas.
Mrs. Mara Ford Hodes of Kansas City, Missouri, Mrs. Jennifer Hayden Morreale, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mrs. Amy DeLaney-Hernandez and Miss Jennifer Ellen DeLaney, cousins of the bride, of Deming, New Mexico, and Mrs. Claire Aiuvalasit of Houston, Texas, served as scripture readers. Miss Jody Samantha Nicholson of Austin, Texas, was in the house party.
Mr. James E. Masucci, father of the groom, and Mr. Henry I. Zaleski III served as Best Men. Groomsmen were Mr. Winston R. Zaleski and Mr. Carl H. Glatzel of Houston, Texas. The ringbearer was Master Andrew Hernandez of Deming, New Mexico, cousin of the bride. Serving as ushers were Mr. Andrew Simon Hernandez III of Deming, New Mexico, cousin of the bride, and Mr. Earl A. Vanzant of Houston, Texas.
Samantha is a graduate of the Duchesne Academy of The Sacred Heart in Houston, Texas. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, and her Masters Degree from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas. Samantha is currently employed by The Methodist Hospital.
Hayes is a graduate of Episcopal High School in Houston, Texas. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the Park School of Communications from Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York. He received his Masters of International Studies from the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado. Hayes is currently employed by the Landry's Corporation.
Following a honeymoon trip to the Napa Valley, California, the couple will reside in Houston.
