Miss Brooke Harris Blackbird and Mr. Matthew Cary Zarbaugh were united in marriage on Saturday, September 21, 2002, at seven o'clock in the evening at Camp Arrowhead in Hunt, Texas. The outdoor ceremony was conducted on the banks of the Guadalupe River with Reverend Ted Harris of Hebbronville, Texas, officiating. Music for the ceremony was provided by the Lyrical Strings. The outdoor reception immediately followed with music by the Grooves of Austin.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Edward Blackbird of Hunt, Texas. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Harris Underwood, Jr. of San Angelo and the late Mr. Underwood and the late Mr. and Mrs. Roy Blackbird of Houston. The groom is the son of the late Mrs. Harriet Ann Storey Zarbaugh and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cary Zarbaugh of Dallas, Texas. He is the grandson of Mrs. Harry Odell Storey and the late Mr. Storey of Searcy, Arkansas, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter David Zarbaugh of San Antonio. Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a gown of white satin by Amsale. The gown featured a bodice of white Alencon lace with the flowing skirt swept into a rose-encrusted triage. The cathedral double veil featured white illusion flowing the length of the gown. The bride carried a bouquet of Casa Blanca lilies, Virginia white roses, dendrobium orchids, bridal white roses and stock.
Miss Elizabeth Robertson of Costa Mesa, California, served as Maid of Honor. Bridesmaids included Mrs. Brian Blackbird, sister-in-law of the bride, of Alpine, Texas; Miss Joyce Gilbert of Denver; Miss Price Latimer of Los Angeles; Miss Jennifer McSpadden of San Francisco; and Miss Sara Turner of New York City.
Mr. Mark Helterbrand of Plano served as Best Man. Groomsmen were Mr. Christopher Zarbaugh, brother of the groom, Mr. Geoffrey Martin of Dallas, Mr. Gregory Rogers of Keller, Mr. Andrew Ewing of Round Rock, Mr. Brian Blackbird, brother of the bride, of Alpine, and Mr. James Hutchison Bryan Jr., brother-in-law of the bride, of New York City.
The Ring Bearers were Master James Hutchison Bryan, III, nephew of the bride and Master Cole David Helterbrand, the son of the Best Man.
Members of the bride's house party were Miss Elizabeth Willett of Rancho Viejo, Mrs. Justin Carpenter of Lynchburg, Virginia, Miss Caroline Darwin of Laramie, Wyoming, and Miss Erica Tomkins of Ft. Collins, Colorado.
Serving as ushers were Mr. Matthew McKnight of Ft. Worth, Mr. Barrett Morris of Dallas and Mr. Bradley Phillips from Broomfield, Colorado.
The bride is a graduate of Saint Mary's Hall in San Antonio and a graduate of Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish. She is currently attending Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado where she will graduate in December with a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Design.
The groom is a graduate of Dallas Christian High School and a graduate of Abilene Christian University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Advertising. He is employed by the Integer Group in Lakewood, Colorado.
Following their honeymoon, the couple will reside in Denver, Colorado.
