Jennifer Elise Looney and Thomas Robert Bates III were united in marriage on Saturday, September 28, 2002, at seven o'clock in the evening at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. The double ring ceremony was performed by Reverend Thomas Pace III. Organist Rob Landes, and vocalists Ileeta Watson and David Daniels provided the music. Scripture readings were given by Timothy Bates and Jacob Fitzgerald. A reception followed at The Houstonian.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Looney of Lufkin, Texas and Buford, Georgia. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren DuBose of Lufkin, Texas and Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Looney of Alto, Texas.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas R. Bates, Jr. of Sugar Land, Texas. He is the grandson of Mr. Thomas Robert Bates and the late Lillian Burman Bates, of Tampa, Florida, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Thomas Stang of Missouri City, Texas.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a silk faille gown accented with alencon lace, pearls and crystal beading, designed by Christos. She carried a bouquet of roses, dendrobium orchids and white cala lilies.
Miss Amanda Looney, sister of the bride, served as Maid of Honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Heather McWilliams, Miss Susannah Cathey, Miss Candace Watson, Miss Melissa Dawson, Miss April Rosen, and Miss Lauren Sulak. Attending the bride as flower girls were Miss Kaitlyn and Miss Carley Radler, Miss Kylie Jo Stuart, and Miss Amber Bates.
Members of the houseparty included Miss Jennifer Hale, Miss Shannon McCullough, Mrs. Cedric Owens, and Mrs. Paul Hoopingarner. Miss Alaina McWilliams and Miss Ryan Bates served as members of the junior houseparty.
Mr. Timothy Bates, brother of the groom, served as Best Man. Groomsmen were Mr. Paul Hoopingarner, Mr. Hunter Looney, brother of the bride, Mr. Shawn Thompson, Mr. Cade Harris, Mr. Marshall Wilson, and Mr. Casey Stang. Ushers were Mr. Stan Newton, Mr. Chad Durham, Mr. Michael Tinder, and Mr. Austen Watkins. Master Connor McWilliams served as ringbearer.
Jennifer is a graduate of Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia and of Texas Christian University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in fashion merchandising and business, and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Thomas is a graduate of Clements High School in Sugar Land and Texas Christian University, where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance and accounting and was a four year letterman in baseball. Thomas is currently employed by Legacy Homes in Fort Worth.
Following their honeymoon on the island of Maui, the couple will reside in Fort Worth.
