Miss Mary Bain Pearson and Mr. John Robert Pitts were united in Holy Matrimony on Saturday, September 7, 2002, at eight o'clock in the evening.
The candlelight double ring ceremony was held at Christ Church Cathedral, in Houston, Texas, the church where the bride's parents and grandparents were also married.
The Episcopal Bishop of Texas, The Right Reverend Claude E. Payne, assisted by The Reverend Laurens A. Hall and The Very Reverend Joe Reynolds, performed the ceremony.
The music, which included the Lord's Prayer and Panis Angelicus, was provided by organist Robert Simpson, trumpeter Tom Tillotson and vocalist Nancy Hairell.
Mrs. Rufus Burns, sister of the groom, and Mrs. James Pitts, sister-in-law of the groom, read the scriptures. The blessing of the newlyweds was given while they knelt on a pair of white satin pillows, which have been used by the bride's family for three generations. A reception followed at the River Oaks Country Club with music provided by Ed Gerlach and his orchestra. On the eve of the wedding, the groom hosted a rehearsal dinner at the Junior League of Houston. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Gary Pinkney Pearson, Jr., and the late Mr. Pearson. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Haralson of Houston, Texas, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Gary Pinkney Pearson.
The groom is the son of Mrs. Roy Eugene Pitts, of Star Harbor, Texas, and the late Mr. Pitts. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Augustus Pitts and the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Martin Maloney. Given in marriage and escorted by her brothers, Mr. Gary Pinkney Pearson, III and Mr. James Haralson Pearson, the bride wore a candlelight silk satin gown trimmed with alencon lace. The full skirt was encircled with medallions which were heavily encrusted with seed pearls. The cathedral length veil was edged with the same alencon lace with rosettes of pearls outlining the design of the veil.
The bride's bouquet was made of white gardenias and roses, accented with stephanotis and sprays of orchids. The bride's sister-in-law, Mrs. James Pearson, served as the Matron of Honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Kristin Pearson, niece of the bride, Mrs. Gary Pearson, III, sister-in-law of the bride, Mrs. Mark Haller, cousin of the bride, of Olympia, Washington.
The bride's nieces, Miss Elizabeth Pearson, served as a Junior Bridesmaid and Miss Megan Pearson, attended the bride as a flower girl.
The groom chose his sons, Mr. John Pitts, Jr., of Washington, D.C. and Mr. James Pitts, of Austin, Texas, as his Best Men. The groomsmen were the Honorable James Pitts, of Waxahachie, Texas, brother of the groom, Mr. Gary Pearson, III, and Mr. James Pearson, brothers of the bride.
Members of the house party were Mrs. Frank Hinnant, Mrs. Cecil Christensen, Mrs. George Farish, Mrs. Andrew Fossler, III, Mrs. Ned Gill, Miss Pam Greenwood, Mrs. Mark Isensee, Mrs. Michael McKahan and Mrs. Babuir Ozden, all of Houston, Texas.
Ushers included Dr. Scott Bloemendal, nephew of the groom, of Dallas, Texas; Mr. Michael Burns, nephew of the groom, and Mr. Rufus Burns, Jr., brother-in-law of the groom, both of Star Harbor, Texas; Dr. Cecil Christensen, Mr. George Rice Farish, Mr. Andew Fossler, Mr. Ned Gill, Mr. Frank Hinnant, cousin of the bride, Mr. Mark Isensee, Mr. Richard Jeter, Mr. Michael McKahan, all of Houston, Texas; Mr. Philip Norman, of San Antonio, Texas; Mr. Robert Pender, of Austin, Texas; Mr. Ryan Pitts, nephew of the groom, of Waxahachie, Texas; and Mr. Matthew Pogor, of Austin, Texas.
Mary Bain is a graduate of The Kinkaid School and the University of Texas where she earned both Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees.
She is also a graduate of South Texas College of Law. After clerking for Fifth Circuit Chief Judge John R. Brown, she became a partner in the law firm of Pearson & Pearson, L.L.P., where she currently practices law with her brother.
Mary Bain was presented by Allegro and is a member of the Junior League of Houston.
John is a graduate of Southern Methodist University holding both a Bachelor and Master degree in Business Administration as well as a Juris Doctorate degree.
Following law school, John was the briefing attorney for Joe Greenhill, Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court.
He is also a graduate of the Protestant Episcopal Theological Seminary of Virginia and is an ordained Episcopal priest.
John is currently Senior Counsel at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld.
Following their honeymoon in Hawaii, the couple will reside in Houston and Austin, Texas.
