Miss Karoline Jean Duessel and Mr. Timothy James Carlson were united in marriage on Saturday, January 19, 2002, at six o'clock in the evening at First Presbyterian Church in Houston. Reverend Asa Hunt officiated at the ceremony, and Reverend James Tinnemeyer of Oakmont, Pennsylvania, cousin of the bride, delivered the homily. Music was provided by the Shepherd School String Quartet and Mr. Joby Bell, organist. The soloist was Miss Meghan Daugherty, cousin of the bride. A reception followed at Houston Country Club with music provided by The Pictures. Family friends hosted a bridal luncheon on the day before the wedding. On the eve of the ceremony, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Grappino di Nino.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Linda Duessel and the late Mr. Thomas Walker Duessel and the granddaughter of the late Reverend and Mrs. E. W. Duessel of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The bride's maternal grandparents were the late Honorable Frank H. Cantoni and Mrs. Alma P. Cantoni of Charleroi, Pennsylvania. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Carlson of St. Charles, Illinois and the late Mr. and Mrs. John Harold Carlson of Elmhurst, Illinois. The groom's maternal grandparents are Mrs. Dorothy Strelecky of North Aurora, Illinois and the late Mr. Edward Strelecky.
Given in marriage by her cousin, Dr. Frank Tinnemeyer of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the bride selected a gown of white silk faille, designed by Christos, featuring an empire strapless bodice asymmetrically decorated with beaded Venice lace and braid. A train of chapel length enhanced the A-line princess skirt. Her headpiece featured an antique tiara from the collection of her aunt, Mrs. Barbara Tinnemeyer of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Kristin Duessel Bilden of Raleigh, North Carolina, served her sister as Matron of Honor. Bridesmaids included Miss Jennifer Harvin and Mrs. Kelli Little, both of Houston, Mrs. Kimberley Powell of Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Angie Tinnemeyer of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Miss Lindsey Ueberroth of Corona Del Mar, California, Miss Elaine Vastis of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Mrs. Beth Benson Weishaar of Kansas City, Missouri. Members of the House party included Miss Kelly Geis, Miss Bethany Johnson, and Miss Michelle Marchand, all of Houston, Miss Lenora Chu of New York City, and Mrs. Sarah Tsoftlias of New Orleans.
Thomas Carlson, of Dallas, Texas, served his brother as Best Man. Groomsmen included Matthew Dirks of St. Charles, Illinois; James Duke of Potomac, Maryland; Johnathon Elsberry of San Diego, California; John Lawrence of Houston; Sumit Matthai of Washington, D.C.; and Kevin Moody of Dallas. Ushers included: Paul Bilden of Raleigh, North Carolina; David Lawrence of Houston; Andrew Rapp of Houston; Nicholas Triandafilou of North Potomac, Maryland; and Matthew Williamson of New York, New York.
The bride is a graduate of Stratford High School. She is a cum laude graduate of Wake Forest University, where she served as president of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She received a Master of Business Administration from Rice University in 1999. She is currently an equity analyst for AIM Funds in Houston. The groom is a graduate of St. Charles High School, and a 1997 graduate of Rice University where he was a two-time Academic All-American for the Rice Golf Team. He is currently an associate with Petrie Parkman in Houston.
After a honeymoon trip to Africa, the couple will reside in Houston.
