Miss Emily Kathrine Crowder and Mr. David Jennings Frazelle were united in marriage on Saturday, January 5, 2002 at seven o'clock in the evening at The Chapel of The Cross Episcopal Church in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Reverend Diane Corlette and the Reverend Brad Mullis officiated the celebration and blessing of the marriage. Scriptures were read by Carolyn Elizabeth Bone of Houston, Texas, cousin of the bride, Aimee Norman Sheahan of Dallas, Texas, and Brynne Faris of Carborro, North Carolina. Organ music was provided by Dr. Wylie S. Quinn, III. A dessert reception followed at the Carolina Inn, with music for dancing provided by the Bill Bolen Band.
The Bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Winston Pettus Crowder of Houston. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Beall of Houston and Crockett, Texas and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Ralston Crowder of Texarkana, Texas. The groom is the son of Mrs. Donna Burgess Lupo and Mr. Charles William Frazelle of Raleigh, North Carolina. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Burgess of Smithfield, North Carolina, Mr. Charley J. Frazelle and the late Mrs. Myra Frazelle of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore her mother's bridal gown of ivory peau de soie.
May Martin Bryan of Chapel Hill served as the bride's Matron of Honor and Anna Elizabeth Frazelle, sister of the groom, of Raleigh served as Maid of Honor. Bridesmaids included Anna Gray Anderson Hart and Molly Green Huggins of Durham, Amy Hawfield Watson of Raleigh, Kristi Elaine Kessler of Charlotte, North Carolina, Kelly Dixson Furr of Nashville, Tennessee, Leigh Rawdon of Menlo Park, California, Linn Allison Griffin of Austin, Texas, Mari Christina Kelly Josey and Ashley Kirby Short, both of Houston. Members of the house party included Tyler Paige Baucom of Wilmington, North Carolina, Allison Prothero Martin of Fayetteville, Julia Duncan Gray of Atlanta, Georgia and Katherine Moore Jones of Houston.
Cotton Paul Bryan of Chapel Hill and Charles William Frazelle, father of the groom, of Raleigh served as Best Men. Serving as groomsmen were Jerome Winston Pettus Crowder of Houston, Texas and Philip Judson Beall Crowder of Burbank, California, brothers of the bride, Thomas Carlyle Knox of Raleigh, Nathan Conover of Kernersville, North Carolina, and Sebastien Dubreil of Atlanta, Georgia.
The bride, a graduate of St. John's School in Houston, Texas, attended Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina where she received her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology. Emily graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Juris Doctor and a Master of Public Administration. She works for the United States Department of Justice, Immigration Naturalization Services in Washington, D.C.
The groom, a graduate of Broughton High School in Raleigh, received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee. David has also received his Certificat d'Etudes Bibliques from the Institut Catholique de Paris. He is a postulant to the priesthood in the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina, studying at the Protestant Episcopal Theological Seminary in Virginia.
Following a wedding trip to the Yucatan, the couple will reside in Alexandria, Virginia.
